Old Dominion Freight Line® Reviews
Unfortunately, Old Dominion promises timely service, but doesn't deliver. While the trailer was delivered on time, once it was packed up, a pick up was schedule and confirm, but it was 24 hours late. I had to call twice and was told once that the driver was 40 minutes away. It didn't happen. I called the second time and was told I wasn't on the pick up schedule despite the confirmation and the previous call promising deliver in 40-minutes. Despite the snafu, the packed trailer was delivered to its destination on time, but once again, despite confirmation calls, pick up of the empty trailer did not happen as promised. Again, I made calls requesting updates. First I was told to expect a 4 pm pickup (after it was supposed to be 9 am) then when that didn't happen, I was told pick up would have to wait until the next day. Once again, I called to complain and the trailer was picked up two hours later. Best practices - under promise and over deliver. It's a motto Old Dominion did not have with me.
Some minor miscommunications at my point of origin, but all in all, a good company with polite staff. If you need something larger than a a cube or container you will need to go with a larger trailer like I did. My only warning is this....Old Dominion simply transports so make sure you hire reputable people to pack and unpack the trailer.
The drivers are incredibly skilled at parking and maneuvering the trailer, and once they picked it up at our old house, it was trasported across country to our new home very quickly. The only reason for 3 stars is that the ramp and dolly was missing when they dropped it off, and due to the holiday weekend, We had to wait an additional 3 days to get a ramp and unload our belongings.
The logistics of the move were not exactly as presented by the company. A few days before the truck was to be dropped of I called to confirm the time. I asked if it could be delivered at 8am. I was told yes that would be possible. I called at 8:20 to find out they only guaranteed a 8-10 window. The loading crew arrived at 8 based on what I was told. The truck did arrive at 10. This added to the loading time and cost. When I called U-Pack, the company who chose Old Dominion, the attitude was “ sucks for you”. They had always been so nice when they were looking to get my business. Advise to anyone moving. Make sure to ask what the worst case scenario would be and plan on that. Remember that just because you are working with people in the moving business, they may not really be able to relate to the moving experience.
The moving crew was great. After making a reservation I had to change it a few days later and they were very accommodating and understanding. They showed up and worked very hard on a hot afternoon. We had some heavy pieces and they all got where they needed to be successfully. I would use them again.
First time using this company and was very pleased with them, they brought the truck when they said they would, they picked it up when they said they would and they sent another truck to pick up the dolly and the ramp since it would not fit in the truck. All with a smile on their face. Good communication and able to call which any questions. Very happy with this company
If you are looking for a very cost effective alternative to a full service moving company, I recommend Old Dominion. You have 3 days to load, and 3 days to unload. Pick up and drop off of the trailers are scheduled beforehand and they were easy to work with to arrange the best times for me. Cost was very reasonable. I hired help on the front and back end to get it all loaded and unloaded.
Booked with Upack but the trailer was provided and transported via Old Dominion. Their customer service was great, even though sometimes it was a little tricky for them to look up our trailer because their system is different from Upack's - but they were always able to look up our info with our last name. Dispatch was super friendly and almost always available. The drivers who dropped off and picked up were extremely friendly and helpful. Trailer was in good condition and came with straps we could use, which was good b/c they used an O-strap which was not what we were prepared for based on what we had read online. Mainly chose this option for the cost - spent about 50% of what a traditional moving company would have run to get us cross country. 22 feet of truck space, 3,200 miles was about $4,800 including gas/transport/etc.
Everyone we interacted with at Old Dominion were nothing but a joy to work with. The drivers at every step (drop off and pick up in Portland and then again in Billings) were friendly, timely, and went above and beyond to get the trailer in the best possible position for us. The dispatchers were on top of everything and a pleasure to deal with. A stressful move was made much less so thanks to Old Dominion. Thank you everyone for a great experience.
Great option for a long distance move without spending an arm and a leg! We set up our move through U-pack movers. They dropped the trailer off and we had 3 days to pack it. We only paid for as much of the trailer as we used. I called when it was full and they picked it up and shipped it to our new place. We called to schedule drop off and then had up to 3 days again to be able to unpack. Call one last time to schedule pick up. Important information- make sure you have space for the trailer or storage pod to be able to sit for 3 days.
