Door to Door® Reviews
Door to Door went into bankruptcy while my containers were in transit from Austin, TX to Sacramento, CA. There was NO communication from them as to where my containers were and WHO would deliver them. I googled them to find out what the heck happened to them.......no one would respond to emails or phone calls. I spent 6 weeks tracking them down and finding out that UHaul had bought them out of bankruptcy! I had to physically walk the UHaul container yard to FIND my containers. This was the WORST moving experience ever imagined.
I found that Door 2 Door ends up adding on fees until their containers are no longer a good value for their size. I also found that promises made to me by sales associates on the phone were different than their actual procedures and charges. It seems that they promise you convenience and customer service but then when it is time to deliver on those promises, the story changes. I also found that the delivery driver of the truck was pretty rude and dismissive. I would not use them again.
They were on time, and our stuff was not damaged. This company gave a quote that was 30% off of the final amount. They also charged us for locks that were not delivered. The containers are not consistent in build. Some were very close to the end of their service life... probably past that date. They do have an interesting concept. It appears that Trucking companies do this along with their main business of logistics. They are a bit disorganized, probably because this is not their main business. The main contact office (the franchiser) is also a bit difficult to work with, as there isn't consistently among the various part-time customer service reps.
Some of my goods were damaged clearly during transportation. Additionally, it was impossible to arrange delivery and pick up times once you picked your day. (This inconvenienced the buyers of my home, as the storage containers sat in front of the house until 5pm despite closing at 10am.) However, I booked them for their convenience and their customer service is great.
Wow. Where to begin. As I shopped around for container companies, what drew me to Door to Door was after I spoke to the first representative. She explained that they know how stressful moving is and that they try to make it as easy and stress free as possible. Trust me, I was STRESSED! So I went with them. Sufficit to say, my experience ADDED to my stress. After speaking to 5 different reps from the company, the dates I needed the containers to be delivered fell through. That was the major stress factor with this move. When the containers were delivered, the delivery guy, Jerome was ok. When he picked them up, he wasn't ok AT ALL. He was wearing headphones, wouldn't answer my questions, didn't want to replace the broken locks that the containers came with and acted annoyed when I insisted on it, etc. I usually tip but did not b/c he did not earn a tip AT ALL. Then I had ANOTHER set of containers delivered. The guy, Robert, was AWESOME! He was covering for Jerome and he was amazing. A great representative for the company. Helpful, courteous and informative. Gave him a GREAT tip. But then when it was time for my containers to be picked up again, Jerome was once again very rude and discourteous. I explained to him that he is the only human contact that customers have with Door to Door and he needs to work on his people skills. His job isn't to just drive the fork lift to load and unload the containers.....it's also to represent the company and be nice, helpful and courteous to the customers. He just stared at me blankly as I was talking to him. I then asked him not to leave my neighborhood by going down the road with all the speed humps so that my stuff in my containers wouldn't be jossled, but instead to go back the way he entered. He again just looked at me without responding and proceeded to get in his truck and leave down the road with the speed humps. Unbelievable. I called customer service to let them know of my bad experience and that I did NOT want him to be the delivery person when I have them brought back. I was told he is the ONLY driver. Great. No wonder their schedule is always so inflexible if they only have one driver! I will say that when my containers were brought back, he was ALOT better. Nicer, accommodating, etc. Aside from him, I must commend the representative, JIM SOUTH. He was with me every step of the way through this whole experience. When my original dates were messed up he really went above and beyond to accommodate. And then from then on, he was the upmost professional during everything. As far as the containers themselves, they were pretty small but solid. I did like that they were wooden but some of the containers they brought me were not in great condition (locks not working, cracks in some of the containers).
We moved from Virginia to the Bay Area. Everything on the Virginia side was 5 stars - so smooth. On the delivery end in the Bay Area, there were delays in both having our bins delivered and also having the empty bins picked up again. Our property managers are not thrilled but at least we got our things...
There is very little communication!! I am told I will get a call back and don't. I have a moving coordinator that I have contacted and never heard back from. It just seems so simple to me to communicate with your customers. I'm moving and have a million things to take care of and to have to repeatedly keep trying just to get a hold of someone is not the best use of my time! The delivery guy was great. The long distance move pricing was a better price.
After scheduling, I had an unnerving call 3 days before my scheduled move that they could not move me on the planned day. They hire out a second party locally who said they told door to door they could not do it. I heard nothing from Door to Door about anything, instead heard it from the 3rd party. My rep was not available and never apologized for the issues. Luckily they resolved it by getting a crew a day early, but that meant I was under the wire then to finish packing a day early.
Everything with Door to Door was excellent until I unloaded the storage containers and some live roaches came out of my stuff! I was super upset and called customer service immediately. The rep told me she had never had anyone call with that complaint before and I believed her. She told me all of their warehouses are sprayed for bugs routinely. My containers came from South Florida so I know that itself could have been the culprit. Either way, she was super nice and sent me a claim form to fill out and submit with a receipt for pest control for my house. If it wouldn't have been for this incident, I would have given them 5 stars. Everything was super and I would use them again for sure. We moved from South Fla to The Metro Atlanta Georgia area. We paid $2300 for 5 storage containers. That price was more than HALF the cost of PODS which is why we went with Door to Door. I'm glad we did.
After having one pod service fall through... a bit last minute.. I called Door to Door pod service. Mike was awesome on the phone and explained everything. They dropped the pods early in the time window exactly where I needed them to. Mike's estimation of how many pods I needed was right on. The pods were clean inside, affordable and secure. I was also able to purchase furniture blankets at a reasonable rate that were nicely wrapped inside the pod. Denise, in customer service, was fantastic in her assist of a small glitch on my end. They all helped to make moving my stuff into storage a bit easier. Thanks Door to Door.
The problem we had with door to door was with the pick up in Albuquerque- evidently the main office in Washington didn't communicate the pick up information - and we waited all day for the pods to arrive (or conversely for the main office to call us back to tell us when the pods would be arriving). The pickup took place the day after our scheduled pickup date. At the other end of the move in Phoenix, the staff there was right on top of letting us know when they expected arrival and in setting up a delivery date The pod drop off was right on time, and the driver knowledgable and cooperative - placed the pods right where I had asked them to be dropped We were asking for same day pickup of the empty pods (in the afternoon) and the driver grabbed them when he said he would. I would use Door to Door storage and moving again, atleast for a small move like the one we had ( the large moving companies really only like large moves and while we did get an estimate from Beakins for the move, they wouldn't have been able to deliver the load for about 2 months) we were able to schedule the move within our time frame needs with door to door)
I thought I would try out the pod style moving. It was a mistake. I would have been better off time and money wise hiring a moving crew with a truck. I called the manager Anthony and he stated he would have charged me more to move without storage ( twice the amount) which would have been 2 drop off less. I am not sure what kind of moving math is involved but it sounds like he was taking advantage of his customers. They also do not pro rate storage so I paid 30 days for 3 days storage which they forced upon us. It is a rip off basically.
