Based on my description of my rooms to be moved, I was offered a 26-foot truck for the move. It proved inadequate for the job. important items such as my washing machine were left behind. The movers then had to "prioritize" what else could go/stay. Given the overall stress of the day and how much I had prepared for it, this added a lot of new stress. It also requires me to pay for and plan another household move to bring the rest of my items. That also involves pet boarding for the day and another long drive. The size of the truck was a "guesstimate" it seems, as no one surveyed the household in advance to more accurately plan for contingencies. I also was confused by the communication process between the "Hire-a-Helper" service and the truck rental office. The rental office staff gave me the name of the owner. I also had a contact person's name who did try to call me, initially, but when I called back there were text/voicemail options, although I did not hear back. A moving professional looking at my house contents would have undoubtedly recommended a bigger truck. I am not a moving professional. This would have saved everyone needless time and frustration and resulted in a happier customer. I used this service through a package of services provided by my real estate company. For something this important and overwhelming, I would not voluntarily use this arrangement again.
The agent in their Baltimore, MD location allowed me to pick up the Cargo Van over the weekend following Christmas after they were closed and did not begin billing me until 8AM Monday morning, the start of the contract. The $600 was for a one-way ($250 extra charge) rental for two days from Baltimore to Carmel, IN (Indianapolis)
Truck size was good (just had too much to move). Truck was clean and easy to use. Booking was great (accommodating when I had to increase the size). Pick-up was slightly problematic due to over-booking and late returns, but they were apologetic and understanding. Drop off was good. Chose them for the lift gate and truck sizes. For big moves, I would definitely use them again. For smaller moves, I would probably go with someone else due to no "One Way Trip" options.
