U-Haul® Reviews
This company told me 14 hours before my move that they had overbooked and wouldn’t have a truck for me. What’s worse is that I had to call THEM to figure this out, 6pm the night before my move. If I hadn’t called to confirm my details, I would have been showing up for my truck rental with no truck to be found and totally unprepared. After finding a family member to lend their pickup truck, we managed to get everything from Quincy to Brighton in one trip with four vehicles (the pickup truck and three moderately sized cars) and with no help from uhaul. I’ve used this service multiple times in the past with no issue, but I will never use them again. I still cannot believe nothing was done to help the situation, and that apparently no one was even going to let me know I wouldn’t have a truck. I would give no stars if I could.
U haul let me down on several items: - I was promised a hassle free and no wait pick-up if I checked in online which I did. I even pre-paid. However, I had to wait 30 minutes at site to re-check in. - Headlamps of truck (driver side) was not functional - was flickering and was not aligned. Result, I could not drive in evenings and early morning - which delayed my move and increased my cost of trip. - Truck was not serviced - had its engine oil lamp on and was really dirty inside. I believe it slowed my trip and obviously I had to spend time cleaning it inside. - U Haul roadside assistance is no good, each time I called to help with issues, you have to wait 60-70 minutes before you can speak with someone and it will take about 90 minutes for someone to come. I stopped at U haul depot, and they could not do anything. The roadside assistance guy who came said he did not have authorization from U haul to change the headlamp. Not sure if I want to rent U Haul again - their trucks are not at all comfortable, have significantly less than advertised gas mileage (7-8 miles to a gallon instead of 10 promised) - perhaps, because they are not serviced as needed, are not at all clean and their A/C system smells of engine oil. In all not good for a long haul - I had read that U haul really are concerned about their customers and their safety, however, I do not believe so. They blame it on their dealers - for cleanness, service items etc.
We have had some upsetting experiences with Uhaul in the past (bald tires, windshield wipers not working, etc.), but I have to say that our truck this time was in excellent condition, the pick up and drop off was great. The pick up location gave us extra moving blankets at no charge and it ended up cheaper than expected so we had a great experience this time!
I would rate them "very good", but that's not an option. I would just double-check a day or two before the move to confirm the reservation is correct. I asked for a van for a day, and when I went to pick it up, they had me down for a 15' truck for 3 days. But they made good on it and I was able to drive the truck for the one day I needed it.
Extremely disappointed with Uhaul. I had reserved an 830 am pick up of a 20 foot truck more than a month out from my move in date, along with 3 dozen moving pads to be rented. When i received my confirmation a day prior to the move, i was told the closest truck was a 30 minute drive away, despite having multiple other uhaul facilities closer to my home. Despite this i went to pick up my truck at 830 as it was stated on my confirmation email as well as my text i received. Upon arrival at the facility, it was closed, and when i called the number at the facility, i was rudely told that they did not open till 9am. I told them i had an 830 reservation, and was told that he did not care, and that they did not open till 9am. When i returned at 9am, the door was still locked, and a gentleman finally opened the door, and treated me as rudely as possible, ignoring the fact that i checked in online previously, requested insurance and moving pads. He told me he only had a dozen, and that i should either "take them or leave em". I honestly have never been treated so poorly in my life. The truck was still filthy and not cleaned from a prior user.
We used a 26' truck to move a 2 bedroom townhouse. Everything fit perfectly in the truck. We did have a problem because I called the day before asking if we could pick the truck up earlier than my reserved time of 9:30. I was told on the phone by an employee at the actual Uhaul location that I could pick it up any time that morning because I was doing it with my mobile phone. This turned out to be wrong and my fiance wound up waiting at the lot until an employee showed up at 9:00 and was able to help check him out. This would have been avoided if the employee I spoke to the previous day had given me the correct information, or changed my reservation time for me.
