They showed up on time, the owner had called me the day before and was pleasant. I informed him that what I needed was help with the heavy items, because myself and my family were going to pack the lighter ones. I informed the three movers of this when they arrived, and then set to work packing up the remaining unpacked items. My wife left to buy them water because they said they didn't have any, and I purchased pizza for them.
They ignored my request, and saved the heaviest items (even one that was blocking the exit door so that it took them longer to move out item) for last; an organ, washer/dryer, and other heavy furniture. My wife placed smelly garbage bags outside our house, instructed them not to pack them, but they were packed at the bottom of a large pile of items that we found after unpacking. Two of the movers were younger and worked quickly, one was older and did about half as much work. After the two hours I reserved passed, they stopped working, while their boss was calling them to insist that I pay for the two hours and then schedule to pay for more. I had been explicitly told not to submit payment until services were complete. I spent about 20 minutes on the phone with hire-a-helper and their boss until I paid, and work continued. The last item they loaded was a large upholstered Ethan Allen brand chair which they ripped and damaged two standing lamps in the process. I tipped them 15 dollars each, despite having a bad feeling about how they had packed, and before separating one of the workers harassed me about leaving a 5 star review immediately, in his presence. I said I promised I would do it later. Upon reviewing their work, and later when unpacking, I could see how they had done a very sloppy job in the beginning of the loading process with the items in the front of the truck, which I spent much time attempting to repack and secure. They had piled heavy items on top of the keys/button of the organ. I suspect one of them took my floor dolly that I packed purchased earlier in the day, as it is still missing. I called the owner to ask about my dolly, and mentioned my complaints. He called me back with one of the workers, where they denied my allegations. First he apologized for the confusion over payment; he said he’d worked with hire- a-helper for many years, and that they must have just recently changed their policy regarding whether payment is made during or after job completion. He seemed a little over- prepared to address my kinds of claims. He said that it was my fault because I should have been watching them while they loaded, that he was protected from damage claims by a U.S. Supreme Court decision, and “good luck” with getting any help from helper a helper because he is “friends with the owner”.

They did not use the shrink wrap at all, despite me requesting that they wrap and secure my items. One of the helpers dragged my mattress across the entire house, instead of picking it up so it wouldn't get dirty, and they put the mattress inside of the pod without any protection whatsoever.

What can a customer expect after booking with you?
They expect the initial phone call in timely manner to discuss the details of their move, time of arrival and what services we provide.
What can a customer expect on moving day if they hire you?
We show up on time, introduce ourselves, do the complimentary walk through in order to get familiar with their residence and determine what items are going on a load and where items go on an unload.
How should a customer prepare for moving day?
The best moves are a wonderful collaboration our moving skills, basic tools, and the customer provide equipment and protective materials such as moving blankets, stretch wrap, bubble wrap and mattress bags.
What types of moves have you handled?
We've been in business for more than 13 years over which time we've done local, long distance, and office moves. The majority of the moves have been local residential moves which is our core business.
What's your favorite part about being a mover?
I was in the mortgage industry for almost 20 years when I started this company as a way to give my customers quality moves at an affordable price. I really enjoy walking into a home on a load job and their items are everywhere and in every room and watching the customer's face light up when we successfully empty the home into their moving truck safely and securely.
What training do you provide your crew members?
Each mover receives thorough class room policy and procedure training before they ever go out on a moving job. Then they get on going on the job practical training with regular assessments of their progress.
