This was my 4th time booking a moving service with HireAHelper and it was one I won't soon forget.
Pros:
- The guys were on time (though with little warning, see cons below) and friendly towards me until the end (see cons below).
Cons:
- I was called 15 minutes before they arrived. Luckily, I was already on my way to the storage unit since it was a 35 minute drive, otherwise, this would've caused an issue with the start time.
- I used a different provider (also found through hire a helper) to move my stuff into the storage unit. Those movers had a 16' truck and not everything could fit in one trip (I ended up moving a patio table + 2 chairs and an office chair myself). That move took about 4.25 hours. This move with Melrose Moving took 6.5 hours and 2 trips with a 26' truck. Each move had 2 movers.
- I'm pretty sure they broke a leg off of my entertainment center, even though they told me it was already like that when they got there--I don't have picture proof that it wasn't already broken though.
- In my move into the storage unit, one man moved my dresser with a dolly (which I will admit, is the heaviest item I have). In this move, both men struggled to move it together and without my consent, cut the wrapping off my dresser, removed the furniture blanket, and removed all of the drawers to move it. They did this in the entrance to the storage facility and put my drawers on the ground which held my underwear and bras along with some other clothing for the world to see before coming back and putting them in a box to move.
- The movers seemed like they might be new to moving? They weren't super efficient with how they moved any of my items and took a lot of time planning how they were going to move boxes and other items (too much time, in my opinion)
- The guys that helped me were mostly friendly towards me until the end but, I don't need to speak their language to know they were bickering with each other the majority of the move which I find fairly unprofessional.
- At the end of the move, I was asked to leave a 5 star review, which is fairly typical. I told them I was uncomfortable leaving a review right then as I had to leave at 5pm and it'd been a long day--I like to be descriptive with my reviews. Still, they pressured me for a review until I had to leave and kept telling me I couldn't leave until their boss called me. I ended up closing my garage and leaving them there (I did tell them I had a commitment and had to leave at 5pm). I received a call from hireahelper on my drive and told them about my experience. They called the moving company and helped make it right so I definitely still recommend HireAHelper as a service--they're great.
Maybe I was unlucky and got some new movers? I'm not sure, but I wouldn't chance it. After hearing of my experience, my partner promptly cancelled their move with Melrose and booked another company. Overall, this experience was the worst experience I've had with any movers I've booked through HireAHelper and added so much unnecessary stress to an already stressful day--I wouldn't recommend Melrose Moving at all.
