S & L Express Moving Services proved to be the worst moving company with whom I have ever done business. When I moved into my apartment, it took the movers (another company) less than 90 minutes to move everything UP three flights of stairs. It took S & L's team nearly three hours to move most of my items DOWN the stairs, and they were still not done. At some point I just started to move items myself. Their supervisor came by to try to excuse their poor service by saying "this really should have been a four person job" (something they should have told me over the phone when I originally booked them if that were the case, considering I had expressly told them that I was moving a 1 bedroom apartment's worth of items down from the top of a 4 story walkup). More importantly, while I understand that moving items down the stairs might take some time, nothing excuses their not following directions. I explicitly and unequivocally told them multiple times that my primary concern was getting everything (which was all completely packed) out of the apartment and down the stairs. If it did not get onto the truck and was not completely packed up, that was fine because I could do it myself after they left, but their most important task was to get everything moved next to the truck and down the stairs. Instead, after they moved about 2/3 of the items downstairs they practically refused to come back upstairs and insisted they would stay by the truck and "keep packing and loading" what was already down there. In other words, they didn't want to carry anything else down the stairs, which then forced me to have to do it myself; not what I was paying for. I told them many times to stop working on the truck and come upstairs, but they repeatedly refused. When I arrived at my new location I found out exactly what they had wasted all that time near the truck doing. They disassembled a number of cardboard boxes to wrap up several items that I told them I was not at all concerned about (e.g., a $15 Ikea file cabinet that is almost 10 years old, so it's fine if it gets scratched a bit, and not worth the 20 minutes they spent taping it up) and basically spent the better part of the last hour and a half rearranging any number of items on the truck simply to look busy because they did not want to, and refused to when I repeatedly asked them, come upstairs and get the rest of my items out of the apartment. Overall, the move was both much more expensive than I had anticipated and the service was horrible. I have no problem paying for service that is efficient and professional, but they were neither. I would not recommend this moving company to anyone.

The crew was friendly, courteous and started off strong with putting the boxes in the two PODS. But as they started to put the furniture in (I had a lot of chairs from different furniture sets) it became more difficult for them to figure out how to stack it. I needed to get another POD to fit everything in and they weren't sure if I needed it nor what size it should be. They also started getting tired and slowing down. So between the figuring out of chairs and the need for another POD or not as well as tiredness, I ended up paying for an additional two hours for a four man crew. I was disappointed in the end and would recommend them for straightforward packing of boxes. They definitely worked hard but I think the job became too complicated for them in the end.

The guys that helped us were on time and ready to work. They loaded my uhaul timely and orderly with care. When we were going to drive to my new apt my car didn't start. AJ (mover) was the first to offer his help and jumped my car; he also gave me an extra pair of jumper cables. After we got to my new apt they helped unload everything quickly and carefully. Overall, the guys had great attitudes, were communicative and were very helpful. I will use this company for my next move.

The only small issue I had was they showed up 15 mts late. This is an issue because I originally asked if I could move my window earlier but they had said they would arrive at the beginning of my window, instead they arrived at the end of the window and also 15 mts later. My suggestion is to schedule them earlier than you would like to be safe. Now that being said, these guys were very very good at what they do :) They were very knowledgeable, and very careful with how they packed my truck. They also used every single inch from top to bottom of the truck. I was very impressed with the way they stacked my truck. I would absolutely use these guys again! Great job!

Although the guys ran late, they called ahead & kept us well informed about their arrival. When they got there they dove in & got everything packed into a probably too small truck! Unloading was very smooth & they finished the job within the reserved time of 4 hours. I would recommend them. Professional, hard working, and friendly.

The movers they sent were efficient and did a great job. Moved our entire 4 bedroom house in 4.5 hours and we have a ton of stuff. I would recommend to anyone in the Chicago area.

S&L sent two amazing helpers, Trent & AJ, who uploaded all of our boxes and furniture plus my scooter to a 16' truck with speed and ease. they even moved my 8' wide sofa out tight corner and smaller door in minutes, that's a record to me.

The two young men who moved our furniture were polite, fast, and hard working. Unfortunately, they did not protect our furniture as requested with the shrink wrap, furniture pads, and other blankets we provided, and we have multiple pieces that are damaged, scratched, and a broken desk. I offered to do the shrink wrapping and blanket wrapping myself at the time most convenient to them and they reassured me multiple times that there were quite experienced at the packing process and knew how to best protect the furniture. The shrink wrap arrived at our destination on the roll, blankets were shoved in between and occasionally over furniture, but the damage is extensive. I will not trust movers to do it their way ever again.

Our service providers and sub-contracted and most already have the needed skills to perform the job. I've heard that they stay updated by actual on the job experiences dealing with unexpected issues and how-to video guides available online
