Relocation with Above & Beyond, A Moving Labor Provider
Why our services go Above & Beyond all those other moving companies. Every mover is personally trained in safe and proper lifting and securing of furniture, until it becomes habit. Doing things like laying blankets down in areas where things like long dresser might have to be set on end to go into a bedroom. We use items like shrink wrap and moving bands(large rubber bands) to keep drawers from sliding out during lifting. We do not hide damages, and try to point out if we see anything wrong before we move the item. In fact we can repair most on the spot, even have fixed items other movers damaged.

The movers from Above & Beyond, came prepared, early to work. They were very respectful and careful and really great space packers. They got all my items within the location I needed. Fit like a puzzle! I definitely would use them again. Great service!

The only way to do this review justice is to tell you the whole story (I'm sorry I can't make paragraph breaks): We had a stressful escrow and everything was coming down to the last minute. I had used up a lot of sick time dealing with it. To save money, I had booked the minimum amount of help loading our moving truck. The owner did accommodate a reschedule and the two helpers did show up on time (that's the only good part of the story). When they arrived, I told them we wanted their help putting all the big things on the truck and I walked them through each room, pointing out and naming exactly what I wanted on the truck. I also said they could load boxes if time and space allowed. John, who seemed in charge, told me they like to start with one layer of boxes so the heavy stuff holds it in place; it sounded reasonable so I agreed. I then returned to packing and managing my special needs child. At one point, John asked me how the payment would work and I explained the website to him; he seemed surprised. He was also surprised that our reservation was only for two hours. He said he never went out for anything less than four hours; I explained money was tight and we only really needed help with the heavy stuff. Right after that, I heard him complain to his co-worker Phil about how we probably wouldn't tip either; later I told Phil we did plan to tip and he seemed apologetic, saying John should not have said that where I could hear him. Phil worked steadily if a little slow but John disappeared at one point for about 15 minutes without telling any of us where he was; he came back, having eaten his lunch, I guess. I would see them taking things out and we mostly tried to stay out of the way. When I went to go check on progress, I found they had moved the heavy furniture out to the front yard and none of it was on the truck. I mentioned our two hours was almost done and they really needed to get the heavy stuff on the truck; Phil seemed surprised so John hadn't told him what I had already explained (I now suspect that John deliberately withheld this information because he was determined to get his four hours of pay no matter what I wanted). I explained it again: money was tight and we only needed help with the heavy stuff. I was trying to be nice about it because I know how often nagging is counter-productive, where the nagged people end up working slower because they resent the nagging. But our two hours was over and almost none of the heavy stuff was on the truck; I had a choice - send them home and still have the work I hired them to do unfinished OR keep nagging them until they got the job done. So I spent two more hours doing my own work of packing and managing my child AND repeatedly telling them what to load. They would nod and sometimes take out what I asked. When I checked, again it was NOT on the truck but only in the front yard. I was visibly frustrated but it didn't change anything in their work ethic; John went off to one side and took a phone call for a few minutes at least once more. At one point, my daughter was stressed out by my stress so I laid down on the living room floor and comforted her; I felt like I didn't have any power over the situation. We needed this work done! So I cajoled and explained and directed and nagged and finally the truck was full - but several large items were still NOT on the truck because of how they had packed it! I was done. I was exhausted and worried about how to make the next part of our move work; I signed their paperwork and released payment. They HAD worked for four hours and it didn't occur to me to stiff them on it. As they left, John justified how long it took by saying that they had carefully loaded everything but that turned out to be a lie as we found several items scrapped up, one big piece with the door fallen off and boxes of clearly labeled AV equipment at the BOTTOM of the stack of boxes. We went onto the next thing and later figured out that we would use the moving truck one more trip than we had planned in order to get the rest of the large furniture. We moved and hustled all weekend; on Monday, I went back to work full-time, and we were still unpacking and getting the last of the stuff out of the old place and cleaning it up. On Friday, I reached out to the owner and let him know I was unhappy that 1) he had not told his crew our reservation was for two hours and 2) his crew did not follow my instructions - which cost me the additional time for them AND approximately $200 extra dollars in rental truck miles for the unplanned second trip. He let me know then that Phil had given notice and he had already let John go over something else. He did not apologize for their behavior, he did not understand my complaint and he did not want to make it right. The only solutions he offered were a refund of John's unauthorized break time (a paltry amount) and moving supplies or, finally after much back and forth, one hour of free labor the next time we move IF I book directly with him instead of using this website; I told him that didn't work for me because I'm not planning on moving again anytime soon! John's inability to listen to me was mirrored in his former employer's inability to listen to me; the owner was generally condescending and dismissive. I will never use this company again and I recommend that you don't either. The name of the company is a joke.

Patrick and Jay were the best! They arrived exactly on time and were super friendly, responsible and hard-working. They were prepared with all the right equipment, and even helped us fix our bed frame. The whole experience from start to finish, including the ease of paying online and communicating with the team, was really easy and pleasant. I would definitely hire these guys again and recommend them to my friends.
