I wish I could give 2 reviews... I'm disappointed my reservation with Hire-A-Helper/Melendez Moving seemed to get lost somehow. My window for movers to arrive was on Sunday morning between 9-10am. They charged my card the day before, suggesting the reservation was in their system, but no one showed up. They told me there was an issue with the truck and at first said they may not be able to find someone else until the next day. This would've been an unacceptable 'solution'. But thankfully, they did manage to find a couple guys with a truck who were willing to do the move on their day off a few hours after my original reservation. No monetary discount or partial refund was issued, which is also disappointing. So I'd say my experience had 2 ratings - I'd give a 3 or 4/5 to the companies because the error was on their end and the communication between them wasn't great. However, I'd give 5/5 stars for the movers, Alex and Milton, who came to my rescue. They did a fantastic job with getting everything moved and I'm so grateful for their hard work and willingness to work on a Sunday when they were under no obligation to do so.

They were 30 minutes late when I made clear that there was a 2 hour window per: my buildings rules. Worked one hour and decided to go to lunch. They did not complete the move.
We would like to clarify that the team arrived at the scheduled time however there was another truck taking up the loading dock, causing the crew to park a good distance away. This made the move more difficult and time consuming. Unfortunately your elevator window was only 2 hours and considering these obstacles, there was some disarray about what to do. When the building denied use of the passenger elevator instead and there was nothing else to be done, the crew felt that the ideal time to take a lunch break was during the time they could not continue the move. We still attempted to use the passenger elevator afterward per your request, but the building did not allow it. I definitely understand that your experience was frustrating, but if the building did not honor your elevator or parking dock reservation, that is out of our control. We would have been glad to complete the move once the building allowed, even if it was the following day, but we did not receive a follow up. Had the dock and elevator been available, I am confident that we could've handled the move efficiently.

Our move was scheduled to begin at 9:30 to 10:30am. At 9:00am I received a call informing me that start time would need to be pushed back to 1:00pm, but they provided an additional crew member at no additional charge. Although our move started late at 2:45pm, the moving crew was very quick and efficient.

What can a customer expect after booking with you?
We always follow up with a direct call to discuss finer details of move and determine if there are any special circumstances that require our attention. We like to make sure everybody is on the same page before move day.
What can a customer expect on moving day if they hire you?
A fresh, punctual, uniformed crew. Bright eyed, bushy tailed and ready to rock & roll!
How should a customer prepare for moving day?
Make sure you are as packed and prepared as can be. Plenty of packing paper in boxes that have glassware. Boxes full so as to avoid crushing, but not overly packed to avoid internal damage. Remove as much garbage and debris as possible to avoid cluttering walkways and getting mixed in with items to be moved. The more clean and orderly the less room for confusion on move day!
What types of moves have you handled?
We have handled moves all sizes from dorm rooms to sprawling estates. We have also handled many commercial moves as well as long distance hauls all over the lower 48.
What's your favorite part about being a mover?
I love the feeling of pride and honor that comes with being welcomed into a customers home and trusted to handle their belongings, and then doing so in a stellar fashion. Feels great to see the sense of relief and contentment that comes over them once they see they're being cared for properly.
What training do you provide your crew members?
We teach every member of our team how to properly disassemble, wrap, carry, pack and reassemble furniture. We also show them how to treat customers and their homes with the utmost respect and consideration.
