First off let me state that my review is in regards to hire a helper or Alpha Movers; not specifically about the two young men that came to unload my pod. Number 1, this company charged my daughters credit card the day before the movers even showed up to do the unloading! This is NOT what they state in their advertising, nor what I was told when I called to set up the unloading. I was told the payment would not be charged until after the job was completed! Secondly, they sent email updates to my daughter rather than to me and we are in different states, it was so confusing that I was afraid the movers might be set up to unload in N.C instead of Illinois!! Thankfully they did show up in the right place. When I finally found a phone number to contact hire a helper or Alpha Movers to insure that the unloaders were coming, Israel told me that the payment had NOT been submitted and would not be until after the job was completed; this was a blatant lie!!
Thirdly, when the guys showed up I asked them if they had a dolly to unload boxes, etc. and gloves, they replied “ no, they did not”. Clearly on the hire a helper site it stated that movers would come with a dolly at no extra cost! The guys did an okay job; but it was obvious that they had little experience in moving! Hire a helper charged $334.00 for two hours and I had to borrow the money to pay them. I was so afraid that they wouldn’t be able to complete the job within that 2 hour limit due to inexperience and not having a dolly; fortunately I had my own dolly for them to use! I asked them close to the end of unloading why they were not using the dolly and they said that they forgot it was there. One of the guys cut his finger first thing trying to open the pod door because he had no gloves and did not know how to open the pod!
My feeling is that I could have gotten high school kids to unload for a lot less money! I’m on a fixed income and planned to unload myself with the help of one other person; but I injured my sciatic nerve two days earlier and was not able to do it! Because these were not experienced movers I did end up carrying a lot of my items myself just to speed up the process; in order to not go over two hours and be forced to pay $125.00 more!! The heaviest items I had was a box springs and mattress, so it’s not as if this job was a major endeavor! With a $40 tip to the boys it cost me $374.00!
I will never use this company again and I felt that anyone in my position should be warned that Hire a helper are NOT what they advertise! When I had to call them after the unloading was complete for the guys to get their pay; I voiced my disappointment with the company and there was total silence from the girl I spoke with until I finished speaking; when she replied “ well, if there’s nothing else you need help with, then have a nice day”. Terrible customer service and being lied to does not compute to being a reputable and honest company!!

We request that blankets be provided for loading and all dressers have contents emptied. Saran Wrap is best to use when securing loose doors and drawers, but as always we will provide as much or as little assistance as possible when getting those items prepared for loading.
