I sought bids for a moving job of a 3 bedroom ranch, with appliances and weight set to start on a Sunday at 8am. Movers for a Cause accepted the job and had the best price and rating. Two days before the move I was told by Reggie at Movers for a Cause that they start between 9-10am on Sundays. What was I going to say? I wanted an earlier start time but by now it was too late to change course. He also offered to provide a truck at a lower cost than UHaul and then I wouldn't have to deal with the pick up and return of the leased truck. I enthusiastically agreed.
Then, on the day of the move Reggie with the truck did not arrive until after 11am, saying he had problems getting a truck. His laborers however arrived at 10:15 and started moving items from the house to the driveway. When I complained about the even later start than anticipated, I was told that Hire a Helper should have never let me input a start time of 8am for a Sunday and that the real start time is 10-11, not even the 9-10 as previously stated. What was I to do at this point? I am a captive audience with my stuff in boxes and at the mercy of Reggie and his 2 laborers.
Reggie knew how to move furniture. His 2 laborers did not. I watched them the entire time. It took them over 5 hours to load my stuff and unload it at the destination (a 5 min drive away). Upon completion of the move and request for payment, I noticed a dent in my brand new washing machine and a broken leg on a large pine armoire. When I mentioned these 2 items to Reggie, I was met with defensiveness and denial (as to the washer). He insisted he and his men could not have possibly caused that dent because of where the hand truck was positioned. This went on for 10 minutes and he was rude and condescending. He did admit they broke the armoire leg but only after I said something to him about it, which makes me believe they knew they had broken the leg and then I began to wonder whether he would have brought it to my attention if I had not said something about it.
After all the hassle and complaining (about the delays, about the dented washer and about the broken leg on the armoire), he offered to deduct $10 off the price of the truck and authorized Hire a Helper to refund me $30. I was underwhelmed to say the least. Hire a Helper then upped the refund to $100 so I received a $110 reduction in my expenses for this move.
I would not hire this outfit again. Reggie was confrontational when receiving complaints and his helpers didn't know what they were doing. They put the hand truck on the wrong side of the appliances (they put the hand truck on the front side instead of the side or rear) and could not figure out how to carry an armoire up a flight of stairs.
Most disappointing was they did not finish the move and left behind my patio furniture and weights, a desk, my dining room chairs, a statue (lawn decoration) and a desk chair. It took my family 3 additional trips with our SUV to get the rest of our stuff. I hired the "experts" to tell me there was enough time in the contract to move my belongings. They were unable to do this.

Reggie and Marvin were amazing to work with. Reggie was very responsive the whole time leading up to the move, and got back to me via email and phone very quickly. The day of everything went smoothly and they were hardworking, courteous, honest and got us on our way in 3 hours, just as expected. Couldn't have asked for more and would highly recommend these guys!

They did a very good job.. Moved a lot of things in a short time. POD was dropped off further that I thought from my door.
Estimated time had to be adjusted for the size of the POD 16x8x8 .and distance of the walk. They didn't expect as much things in it. Great packing I'm afraid .. This POD held more things that the average person would have packed. Could have definetly used an extra hand. They went over by a half hour.. They took it in stride and just worked faster. All in all a job well done. Very respectful. I would definetly recommend these gentlemen again.
