Major Neighborhoods in Memphis

Known for its history of blues, soul, and rock n’ roll, Memphis is packed with incredible landmarks. And has more sunny days on average than Miami, believe it or not! It's home to the legendary Sun Studio, where artists like Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley recorded some of their most iconic albums. Speaking of The King, you can also visit Graceland, the former mansion of the beloved singer. The Mempho Music Festival is a must-do it’s the city’s biggest music fest, with three days of live acts performing at Memphis Botanical Garden. And this is just the attractions for the music lovers. Memphis also has great universities, delicious barbeque, and lively neighborhood communities. But be sure to check with local movers who are experts at navigating the city before you relocate here.

Downtown Memphis

Downtown Memphis is the city's business and entertainment hub known best for Beale Street, an iconic thoroughfare lined with music clubs and neon signs. You can also out the amazing Rock n’ Soul Museum, with various interactive exhibits and costumes worn by famous musical performers. Of course, you can’t live in Memphis without getting to know some famous barbecue spots like Blues City Café or Marlowe’s. Since music makes up the foundation of this neighborhood, it hosts frequent events, most notably the Beale Street Music Festival. If you're a music enthusiast already thinking of joining this community, take a look at our list of professional moving services to help you relocate stress-free.

Midtown Memphis

A lively nightclub scene makes Midtown one of the city’s busiest neighborhoods, and a great place for those who always like new experiences. Overton Park offers locals an opportunity to chat with their neighbors, enjoy some live music, and connect with nature. You can catch plays and musicals at Playhouse on the Square, while fans of modern art will appreciate the Brooks Museum. And if you’re an animal lover, hop over to the Memphis Zoo for an afternoon of walking through the exhibits. As said, though, the area can get pretty busy, so hire a local moving company that's familiar with the area to get your new home even with all of the bustle and traffic.

East Memphis

East Memphis is perfect for anyone who loves heading outdoors more often than not. You can take a walk along the short trails at Lichterman Nature Center, enjoy a day of horseback riding at Shelby Farms Park, or rent a paddleboard to ride around Hyde Lake. Residents also enjoy Laurelwood Shopping Center, an upscale retail space selling designer fashion, luxury home goods, and more. The Dixon Gallery & Gardens, an impressive 17-acre garden and fine art museum, gives you the option of seeing something beautiful whether indoors or outside. East Memphis consists of several subdivisions, which can get a little confusing for newcomers. But hiring a local mover to help you navigate will eliminate that roadblock.

Cooper-Young

Cooper-Young is a neighborhood where centuries-old historic buildings and quirky shops selling custom drum kits, rare vinyl records, and vintage clothing stand side-by-side. And also a statue of Johnny Cash. Check out the Memphis Drum Shop with a stage and gong chamber on the second floor. Or, if you have kids, spend time at the Children’s Museum for a day of fun and education. After all that walking and shopping, you can grab a delicious bite to eat at Imagine Vegan Café or Maciel’s Tortas & Tacos, which doesn't even scratch the surface of the tasty restaurants around the area. It's a fun vibe in this neighborhood, and if it matches yours, make sure you hire local professional movers to get you to your new home seamlessly.
