A Moving & Company did not do a good job with unpacking my container and moving the items into the home on 2/2/25.
There were two movers. One, Race (or Reese?) did a good job. The second mover was a woman who did not seem at all cut out for a moving job. We did not have an excess of large items in the container - a Queen mattress (the frame was taken apart already), a loveseat, two chairs, and a small TV stand and coffee table were the only items that needed two persons to move them.
After helping to move the larger items, this mover needed to take long breaks to recover before continuing work. She constantly complained about how difficult the work was, and the move-in took much longer than necessary because she simply wasn't up to the work.
Because of this, some furniture that was to be put together wasn't, and she simply disappeared after moving some items, leaving Race/Reese to do everything.
In addition, a bookcase was severely damaged by someone dragging it across the pavement, and it will need to be replaced.
To top the experience off, payment was authorized for the service without my permission. My credit card was on file, but I held off authorizing the payment because I wanted to talk to Hire a Helper about these issues first. When I called Hire a Helper, I was told that I had authorized payment when I had not.
To summarize, I'll answer the suggested questions above:
They arrived a few minutes late. Not a big deal.
One of the workers was prepared for the job and did fine. The second was thoroughly unprepared.
One of the workers worked hard. The second did not.
No. One piece of furniture was destroyed.
No.
I urge Hire A Helper to review the status of this company - they have good reviews on this site but my experience was very poor.
I have spoken with Reese the lead mover on the job and the facts of the move according to him are as follows;
1. The book case that was "Damaged" from scooting on the pavement was moved by Reese and by a dolly in and out of the POD and at no point was it ever drug on the pavement.
2. The POD was no where close to the apartment so the delay or "Breaks" was not a break but walking the 50 yards to the POD and sorting and unpacking the POD took a little time.
3. PAYMENT WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION: A Moving Company as well as any provider on this platform does not at any point have any customers Payment information. A Moving Company did not take payment it was released by customer.
4. Furniture to be put together. The back of the chair was removed to get into the apartment. The bed was put together with the exception of the feet for the adjustable bed because there location was unknown. Once Reese put the bed together and moved to put the recliner back on it was already put on. NO other furniture need to be assembled. I asked to the customer on location if there was anything else she stated "No everything was great, thank you". I guess we should have asked the one who left this review (The one Paying) if she need us to do anything else. If you believed there was issues to receive a 1 star rating, it would have been nice to have received a call to replace the mover or had someone speak directly with Reese as he is the owner at the time of services.

I had a great experience with hire a helper. We used the company in California to load our stuff and in Idaho to unload. Both times the workers kept me informed of their arrival time. They worked hard and were very careful when moving our belongings. I would highly recommend hire a helper!

What can a customer expect after booking with you?
First a phone call. Verify move details. Contact # and get permission to text. Add to our moving schedule. Customer will receive text (if authorized) and email notifications regarding appointment time. They will receive text reminder the night before moving and an on my way text when movers are on their way to location. The notification text can be used to communicate with the owner 24/7.
What can a customer expect on moving day if they hire you?
On time arrival. Walk through the home and find out customers desires for location of items. A MOVING & COMPANY will unload or load items. All you as a customer needs to do is point and direct when needed and we will do the rest. A MOVING COMPANY is dedicated to giving you the customer service and peace of mind that your items are safe. How should a customer prepare for moving day?
The best thing that customers can do for themselves and their movers is color code rooms and its contents. Then color code the rooms at the new location. This will make unloading very easy for you, and your movers. Have a game plan on what your expecting. Have any questions you may have ready for your movers. A MOVING & COMPANY owner is available 24/7 to answer these for you via text message.

We have done hundreds of Local Moves with 5-star ratings. We also have done long distance moves with NO DAMAGES and most of all affordable. We have done office relocations. We also do Furniture and appliance store pick-ups and deliveries. We have also done furniture removals and drop offs to second hand stores.
What's your favorite part about being a mover?
Message from the owner; I get asked why I chose moving as my Career? It's hard work and not fun! MY answer is this, I love the look of excitement and relief on A Moving Customers face when we unload there last box into their new home. The look on there face when we load up the last item on the truck and they did not think their things would fit. The review when A Moving & Company gets to their destination and there items arrived in one piece and undamaged.
What training do you provide your crew members?
Every crew member of A MOVING & COMPANY gets 2 weeks on the job training with the owner. Moving is not just moving items it is also customer service. Once they satisfactorily completed the Movers training. Then they are also trained as a lead mover and responsible for whole move from beginning to end. This and all training are done with the owner only. We have strict drug and alcohol policy as well as customer service.
