I had a great experience with Mighty Mike's. If I ever have to move back to the Twin Cities, I would use them again. I gave them a few things that should be packed in front of the uhaul, and all is fine. Mike and his helper were on time, although I did not expect them to be, because I said between 8-9 as I did not know exactly when I would be getting back with my rental truck.
I am again using, Hire a Helper in Custer, SD, this coming Friday(July 24th) to help me unload.
Thanks Mike! Your helper was also GREAT!
Andy

Mover's response:
Thanks Andy,
Glad you had a pleasant loading experience. We would be glad to assist you again.

It's always difficult to do these reviews as it is hard to understand tone and intent via text. Also, I must acknowledge the fact that I personally could not have moved all of my stuff without help, and for that I am always grateful for help, whether paid for or not.

With that said, without malice, I was disappointed on several levels with the service that was provided:
1. Some of our furniture was covered in plastic to protect it, but it was taken off to move it. Then they were set down on a wet doormat outside our door before working them in through the entryway. I totally understand taking your time to negotiate stairs, doorways, etc and this would not have been a problem had they left the plastic on. I also understand that it's probably easier to grip without the plastic, but with two people per piece instead of one it could have been done. I imagine he was just trying to be efficient and speedy.
2. As he is a small business owner, I get that he has a lot of responsibilities. It was clear that there were multiple things going on at other jobs that needed his attention. He, however, spent quite a lot of time on his phone trying to sort it all out. It was very noticeable how it was affecting his moving of our stuff. We ended up paying for an additional 30 min. This likely would have happened anyways, but I also wonder if he hadn't spent so much time on the phone and not moving would we have been able to make it work in the originally scheduled time period?
3. During several occasions I stated that we preferred they move all the big stuff so that if we ran out of time we could just finish the move ourselves. I will acknowledge that I mentioned this mainly to the second mover as Mike was often on the phone at the time. I guess this did not get conveyed. When I was able to directly state this to Mike, he said we were already out of time and that if we were willing to pay he would finish the job.
4. I acknowledged prior to the move and on the day of the move that we did have a longer way to go with extra stairs and that I was more than willing to pay extra if needed. It was necessary, and I was fine with it. But after I agreed to the extra fee I overheard him telling his worker that he would "only charge me half" for the stairs and by doing so that they'd make it up or even more so "with the tip" because I would be so grateful. I get it, I do... but it just came across as a little unprofessional.
5. Another piece of furniture that probably would have been better moved by 2 people was damaged. He didn't address it directly and when asked what we were supposed to do he seemed annoyed by it and basically told us how to fix it ourselves. He did also mention we could file a claim through Hire a Helper. Came across as it was a bummer but not really his responsibility. He did wave the extra fee for the stairs at this time.
6. I get that moving heavy boxes and furniture up and down stairs all day is hard work (I actually did it in my youth) and so the idea wearing a mask while doing it seems extremely uncomfortable and difficult. But I honestly would have appreciated that even if it took twice as long. But that's okay. What stood out was no obvious use of hand sanitizer before or after they started. They touched pretty much all our stuff and as stated above actually removed protective coverings. And then they rushed off to the next job. Hopefully for their safety and for others they took appropriate precautions.

There were also several things I appreciated:
1. As stated above, I could not have done this move by myself.
2. Mike did some serious Tetris work with putting things into our very small storage space.
3. His coworker was a hardworker that, although appearing new, was kind and professional.
4. They did a great job disassembling our heavy dinning room table and assisted in making sure it was put back together properly.
5. We requested he tell Hire a Helper about the damage to our kitchen cart, and he did.

I can't imagine being a small business owner responsible for moving other people's valuables, let alone doing it during a pandemic. I hope this post is informative and helpful. Not intending it to push folks away from hiring this moving company, but hoping the specifics make it easier to address internally. Wish everyone the best!

Mover's response:
Wow, a review that sums it it all up. Thanks for your feedback Shannon. FYI, TJ had a health condition after your job. This work is not for the faint of heart. Plastic and sweat on especially humid days are both ingredients for trouble. Sorry about the pantry table leg. Furniture construction is not like the old days. I should have been more careful while tipping it up, especially since it was top heavy.
