Major Neighborhoods in New Orleans
One of the most iconic cities in America is New Orleans (aka “The Big Easy”). It's hard to say what it's most famous for, though. You'll get arguments for Cajun food, literary inspiration, bayous, the country's largest Mardi Gras festival, and live music, including Satchmo Fest, which honors native Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong. And genuine sports fans will say the Saints at Ceasars Superdome are the city's flagship no matter how the season goes. But all this means is there's guaranteed to be something you'll adore about living in NOLA. You can read up on the most popular neighborhoods to find the perfect fit for you, and then check out our list of local moving companies. The pros and their know-how will make navigating the area a breeze.
French Quarter
Long revered as the city's crown jewel, the French Quarter is one of the most well-known neighborhoods in the country. Undoubtedly, that makes this area exceptionally busy with tourists and locals alike, but it's hard to beat living so close to the iconic facades and wrought iron balconies on Bourbon Street. The nightlife scene is unlike anywhere else — where else will you find 200-year-old bars like The Napoleon House or ones that rotate like The Carousel Bar & Longue? And if you're a fan of Cajun cuisine, you're right next door to Antoine’s and Bennachin. Keep in mind, that the streets in the French Quarter are old and narrow, so if you're planning on making this your new home, rely on local movers who know the area well.
Garden District
The Garden District's choice of houses ranged from charming little cottages to grand, historic mansions. You can see the whole range of homes riding a trolley car on the 5-mile stretch of St. Charles Avenue (which is also the street where the Mardi Gras parade is hosted, by the way!). Those who are amateur historians or like a good ghost story will enjoy the impressive tombs at Lafayette Cemetary. You'll also want to spend some time on Magazine Street, where many of the local stores and eateries like Stein’s Deli reside. If you plan on joining the Garden District community, be sure to check out our list of local movers. Their familiarity with the area will take the stress out of your relocation.
Bywater
Bywater is nestled along the banks of the Mississippi River — hence the name. But more than waterfront views, it's a fantastic spot if you're a foodie. Elizabeth's is a local favorite for brunch, Jamaican Jerk House serves up out-of-this-world oxtail, and if you're up for a 10-course tasting menu with delicious cocktails, Saint-Germain is the perfect choice. If you're not in a restaurant-going mood, don't fret! Crescent Park is a beautiful green space with picnicking spots right along the river. And wherever you are, there's a good chance of some local art nearby, either hanging on the walls of restaurants or murals. Convinced this is your new home? Then take some of the stress off by hiring local movers and leaving the logistics to the pros.
Uptown
Uptown is a huge section of the city that's often referred to as "Uptown/Carrollton". One of the biggest amenities is the 340-acre Audubon Park and by extension the the Audubon Zoo, with 36 different animal species. You can catch a movie at the 100-year-old Prytania Theater for a unique viewing experience. And whether a local or visitor, eating at Jacques-Imo's is a must, since you're not likely to find Creole cuisine this good anywhere else. The neighborhood is also home to Tulane University and sees a lot of student and student-athlete activity, which means the busiest times fluctuate. But this won't end up as a big problem for you if you hire local movers who know how to navigate even when things get hectic.
