The initial phone calls to schedule the loading of a container was easy and efficient. The foreman was very accommodating on the phone and answered my questions.

However on the day of the loading job; it was scheduled for 2 men to arrive between 8-9am. I received a text at 8:15am that they would not make it until 10:30am. The 2 men arrived at 11:15am. I had been waiting until 8:00am.

They didn't need to bring anything because I supplied all of the moving blankets, stretch wrap, and ratchet straps.

As far as working hard, let me say the last loading job I paid for was in Texas and the 2 men in Texas were so energetic and spot on professional and worked fast. These 2 were no where near energetic and actually asked me my opinion about some of the loading. My response was I'm not the professional. You decide.

They were respectful of my furniture and house.

When they finished one man asked me for a tip!!! I did tip them but I will admit I wasn't going to initially. It wasn't a good experience and I don't have a lot of confidence in how I'm going to find my belongings when I have the container unloaded.

I'll use the company again but if they sent these 2 same men I would not use them.

We used a 26’ u-drive to move from another state and at 66 & 77 years old wanted help with the larger items (sofa, fridge, W/D, dressers, queen bed, the like). They boxes at the back we would move ourselves.
The truck ramp went right onto and level to the deck near the two entrances. Couldn’t be easier. The big challenges are the house is small and the doors very narrow.
I knew I was hiring college kids, but from the glowing write-up assumed the ones I hired had been doing this at least 3 years. The guys that came seemed like this was their first move. They were much slower and less creative than the HireAHelper crew who loaded the truck. There was a lot of standing around (pro movers are constantly moving!), it was not clear if anyone was in charge, and I had to direct every move, but could not watch them both at the same time.
I expect experienced movers to know some tips and to come up with a plan before dumping things here and there.
At a minimum, pro movers would have a tape measure, clear tape, and their own water bottle. (We provided the hand truck.).
The deal-breaker problems: 1) They were not careful. I often had to remind one of them to not drag things along the vinyl plank floor or scratch the surface of nicer items. They tracked mud everywhere from water that leaked out of the washer. One of them stopped moving in our dryer because he said he’d already “put enough cuts in the power cord” where it jammed in the metal trim of the slider door. Yikes. I watched them break off two down lights on the porch, which they knew they did and didn’t apologize.
2) They were both nice guys and did a good job moving in a huge couch, but didn’t finish the job. They could not fit the old stacked W&D through the door and it was left in the way for the rest of the move (it got into the house, it seems it should go out?) We easily moved it out ourselves later by simply rotating the unit! Then new fridge wedged in the door coming in.
3) Poor communication. Halfway through the budgeted time, I had checked with the one who (when I asked) said he was in charge if they could stay later than the two hours I booked and he said, “No problem.” Thirty minutes into OT he suddenly said he had to “leave immediately to go to another project” and “his substitute was on the way.” That’s when we decided to finish unloading ourselves and let them go, with the fridge still wedged in the door (we sorted that). I don’t think they were disappointed to be done. Nice guys, simply not yet ready for a house move.
Why 1 star? I texted Help to HireAHelper and a few hours later an exasperated-sounding woman called back and we had a weird conversation about the Move Protection Fee, which sounds like their markup, nothing more. She didn’t care about the disappointing experience we had so I cut the convo short to go back to unloading.
