This was such a strange experience. I needed someone to unload a VERY well loaded rental truck into a storage unit. When making the reservation, I spoke with Dominic, who was polite and professional, and on the day of service he called to let me know they were running a few minutes late, which was fine. However, when they arrived, Dominic stayed in the driver's seat of the car the entire time, while 2 other guys got out of the back seat. They just kind of stood there awkwardly, and I was waiting for Dominic to get out and say something, but he didn't. I asked one of the guys if Dominic was coming, and he said "Oh, no he's got some work to do on the computer today." OK, a little weird but whatever.

One of the guys, Alex, looked VERY young, like maybe somewhere between 15 and 17? But he ended up being great, he worked hard and was very nice and communicated well. The other guy, who told me his name was John (I don't believe this was his real name for a lot of reasons but it's not that important so I'll just call him John) was slow, distracted, and very careless with my belongings. They took a couple of bins out of the truck that had been partially crushed (not their fault) and I said "Please don't stack anything on top of those bins since they're already crushed." John seemed to have misheard me, because he repeated back "You want me to stack these on top of each other?" and I said no, and repeated myself. He then set them down and attempted to stack another heavy bin on top of them. I had to stop him and tell him AGAIN. After he moved them to the storage unit, he attempted to do it AGAIN, and this time Alex and I both stopped him and reminded him. He was like this the entire time, just not really paying attention and seemed like his head was elsewhere. He also kept trying to pile things in a way that was really unstable, and I'd have to stop him and ask him to do it differently so they wouldn't fall.

I pointed out several antique pieces of furniture that were very fragile, and asked him to please not pile anything on top of them. I had to keep telling him this over and over as well. He actually dropped the legs to a very fragile an irreplaceable table that I had specifically asked him to be very careful with, then tried to set them haphazardly on top of a pile of other things that they definitely would have fallen off of. It seemed like he had never loaded or unloaded anything before in his life, and the way they both unloaded my stuff was so chaotic and disorganized, it barely fit into a storage unit that was bigger than my rental truck.

I want to make sure Alex gets credit for being a trooper, but such a young kid should NOT have been in charge of this entire operation. And for every trip they made moving things from the truck to the storage unit, I made a trip as well moving my own stuff. I didn't trust John not to damage my things, and I personally saw him run my furniture into the walls repeatedly and not even bat an eye. It was VERY frustrating that while I was almost working as hard as they were (which I had not intended to do since I have a back injury, and was the REASON I hired movers), Dominic was sitting in his car staring at his laptop completely ignoring us as we all walked right past him probably 40 times.

Also, while we were working, a random woman came over and started flirting with John, asking him if he was going to "come hit on her" when he was done. Instead of saying something like "Sorry, I'm working right now," he just started flirting back and saying he'd get ahold of her and he'd be happy to help her out too. He was really unprofessional and seemed lazy and/or completely uninterested in the job he was supposed to be doing, the one I was paying him way too much for.

I'm not exactly sure what the deal is with Monolith Movers but they seemed like a very small and inefficient operation with one strong, friendly, optimistic and energetic kid, one spaced out guy who'd rather be anywhere else, and a "manager"/chauffer who turns a blind eye to everything going on around him. I would hire Alex again, but as for the rest, absolutely not. Which is really disappointing because at some point I'll need movers to take my stuff out of storage and move it into my house, so I was really hoping this would be a good experience and I could hire them again. Oh well. I had to tip them by a link I got by text and there was no way to only tip Alex, but if Dominic reads this, please give my entire tip to Alex, he's the only one who earned it.

Mover's response:
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, we value all customer reviews as they help us improve our services. We have thoroughly reviewed the details of your move and would like to address some of the inaccuracies in your review. Your order was for 2 movers for 2 hours. Our 2 movers arrived at 10:06am for a 10am-11am arrival time window. The move was completed in 1 hour and 20 minutes, well before the allotted 2 hour completion window. There were zero broken, scratched or damaged items. There were no items dropped during the move. For clarification of the table legs referenced, the table legs were not dropped on the ground as implied. The table legs were wrapped in a blanket and had shifted (packing services were independent of Monolith Moving Company and were conducted prior to our arrival). I am unclear as to what the implied reference was regarding our mover's name (John) but I would like to reiterate that we are committed to providing an inclusive and respectful environment for both our customers and movers. We stand behind the integrity of our movers and their abilities to complete each move professionally, efficiently and respectfully. Thank you again for your feedback. We are dedicated to providing exceptional service and a positive experience for all of our customers.
