U-Haul U-Box® Reviews
Shipped two uhaul Uboxes from two different states. Good: my stuff did eventually arrive, no damage, on the day I wanted. Bad: everything else. Complete incompetence from everyone at uhaul - National, regional, and local. Took literally over 40 phone calls (and being repeatedly ignored) to fix issues with my reservation (not caused by me) and find/deliver my stuff. Was overcharged, lied to, and made to feel like I was the problem. Problems seemed universal as I had them with multiple facilities and offices. Would NEVER recommend. Spend the extra money for Upack or PODS (previously used Upack with none of these issues). I’ve moved 10 times in 10 years and never felt this frustrated or helpless with moving services.
First let me say that ALL of the UHaul employees I dealt with were courteous, helpful, and even seemed to care whether I got my freight. My reason for the average rating is that the carrier they gave this shipment to did was truly average. They didn't pick up the frieight until several days after they were originally scheduled, then when the driver finally did get on the road he ran out of hours and had to stop overnight. Typical BS, but it made a lot of extra work and stress for me having to continually re-schedule my unloading help, and wondering each time whether something else would go wrong. If you are on a strict timetable, I would not use this service, but if you're somewhat flexible it's fine. UHaul did refund us $300 for late arrival, which helps. UBoxes did not leave the original terminal on time. When they did leave, the driver wasn't able to make the trip in the time promised. What I didn't realize is that UHaul doesn't move this freight themselves, they
U-Haul manager at the Old Hickory blvd facility in Jackson Tn. was totally worthless. Cost me 2 extra hours of movers time($280),and took his time like he had all day,but i didn't. His fork lift ran out of propane after moving only 1 box to the door. Took his man 2 hours to get another one there, leaving my movers standing around for the first 2 hours($380),they stayed another 2 hours to help at a cost of another $280 to me.($140 an hour after the first 2 hours). He was slow ,lazy, and argumentative. I'd give U-Haul another chance, but never through him.
The communication was excellent. The pod was delivered within the time frame quoted and picked up in the same manner. We had to delay delivery and there was no problem in their accommodating our request. Then, due to Hurricane Michael, we asked for the earlist possible delivery, which was granted, and pick up was request a day earlier and they again met our request.
ALL LOCAL STAFF WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO HELP AND DELIVER MY STUFF. I MOVED ORIGINAL DELIVERY DATE. THOUGH A FEW HICKUPS THINGS WERE DELIVERED 3 DAYS LATE. CALLING THE COOPERATE NUMBER WAS A VERY LONG 45 MIN TO 1 HR WAIT ON HOLD. ONCE OFF HOLD THEY TOLD CARE OF THE PROBLEMS BUT THAT WAS TOO LONG PHONE TIME
The Uhaul Pods where the way to go for me. I didn't know where I has going to purchase a home, so renting a truck, driving unloading into a storage unit and them reloading wasn't a good option for me. The Pods were delivered when they said they would be, everything has intact, nothing broken and they were delivered to my new home in the mountains. Both drivers at each end where very professional and knew what they were doing. I would use them again when needed.
For the price this was a great decision, 2 Ubox containers fit our entire 1 bedroom 1 study apartment. The only thing that keeps me from giving it an "excellent" reviews is that they are plywood boxes and although they have a heavy-duty locking mechanism, anyone wanting to get in only needs a saw to get through the plywood or a screwdriver to take the brackets off. Although nothing has happened to our belongings this is a little disconcerting to me. Otherwise, the price is right and our experience with the company has been pleasant and smooth.
If I were to rate just the personnel, this would be 5 stars. Joy was a great communicator and problem-solver, and her upbeat, energetic manner made her a pleasure to work with. I can see why they had her training a new person. We had a complex process, with Uboxes coming and going for a month, then going into storage until our new home was ready. The communication was fairly good, with us receiving phone confirmation for nearly every dropoff and pickup. The 4-star rating is due to the fact that several of the boxes had locks which did not have clearance for a heavy duty lock which we had bought specifically for the box. In one case, we had to have an empty box replaced because no lock could fit in, not even a lightweight combination lock. The Uboxes were a good option for us.
After PODS never showed up to deliver our moving crates, we contacted UHaul to see if they could help us with our move across country which was to take place the next morning. From that moment on, the move was smooth and stress free. They delivered our crates to our new home on the day they promised and even arrived earlier than their anticipated window. They did have to postpone the pick up of the crates when we were finished unloading them but it wasn’t a big deal as we had more than enough time to unload our belongings. UHaul really saved us when PODS become a huge disappointment. We could have avoided a lot of stress had we chosen them to begin with!
Everything was fine with the Uboxes until the day they were to be delivered at 9:00a and the driver did not show up until 12:30. The hire for help 3 guys showed up on time at 9:00a so I paid them for 3 hours to sit on my garage floor. Then had to pay another 3 hrs. I am having a hard time getting through to UHaul to speak to a manager to request a refund for the additional hours as it was Hector, the Ubox driver's fault.
I used Uhaul to transport uboxes. I called several times to get a time of when the driver would drop them off. I was told the driver will call me and confirm with the time and that they will do same day pick up days before the drop off. I never received a call. I called the day before to see what time and they told me 12pm, I asked them to make it around 5pm because I had to work. I was told the driver will call me. Again, the driver never called me. I get an email from the driver as uhaul had an old phone number for my order even though I changed it, saying that I HAD to call and confirm in order for my boxes to be dropped off. I call her cell, no answer. I call the office number in her email where someone else said they were dropping off at 12pm, it was already after 12 when I spoke with them. The driver of the uhaul was rude. I needed her to drop them off and pick up the dame day as my apt management wouldn't allow the boxes to stay overnight. She refused. The driver said she never received the note of her having to pick up the same day and the boxes would have to stay overnight. She also stated she was pulling the recording of my phone call requesting the same day pick up. I hope she did because I did request for same day pick up. Fortunately, my apt management agreed to let the boxes stay overnight. Pick up was ridiculous. I received an email from the same driver regarding pick up and she said if I don't confirm with her before 11am, the boxes will stay another day. They were already empty, so I emailed her twice and no response from her or her management team. She didn't "confirm" with me about the pick up but sure demanded one from me. I didn't know she came and took the boxes until I got home from work and seen them gone. Please note, if Uhaul don't drop your boxes off at the time THEY state, your order is supposed to be refunded to you. I didn't know this at the time. The driver wasn't there at 12pm and she called me to ask me for a later time which I didn't mind as I needed a later time anyway. Uhaul has someone call you to confirm if your boxes were dropped off. When I said no, she wasn't there. The lady on the phone said I am going to put the drop off at 1pm. I said no, the driver is going to call me when she is near, which at this time I had no idea what time the driver was going to drop off the boxes. I asked her why did this matter as I was already in communication with the driver. She stated she had to put it in the system. No, they want to make sure they keep their money. My boxes weren't dropped off until about after 4:00pm and my original drop off was at 12pm.
Overall the equipment was in good shape and a great solution for my storage needs and overall move. I gave a rating of average because the estimate of u boxes needed was severely underestimated by both the website and the customer service rep I scheduled with. On the day of loading, I had to scramble to rent and additional rental truck which left the moving help waiting and doubled my costs.
the boxes arrived on time at our house. they were clean, and each box contained 2 dozen furiture pads. After we loaded them, they came back and picked them up right on schedule. They promptly shipped them to Texas and stored them until we were ready to move in. they delivered the boxes on schedule, and came back later the same day to collect the empty boxes. The drivers were all very nice and pleasant Here in TexaS, NITA WAS especially nice to work with.
Auburn Wa, UBox, avoid them. They lied to me, wouldn't return phone calls, hung up on me. I filed 3 complaints, they would call and say things like: this is a mess, I'll look into it and call me back. They didn't. They were a week late shipping, where I was camped out and sleeping on the floor. They take no responsibility for their errors, and Uhaul has no interest in making my experience better. They post errouius dates and charges. There is no honor in their Guaranteed delivery date. It changed 3 times, without notice. They even put .Tom instead of .com on my email address. They typed in delivery address wrong. Uhaul, you suck and I bet you don't care.
I was serviced out of Montgomery IL location. The GM was very responsive and helpful, and my driver, Odonna, was amazing. The Uboxes themselves are ok. I ordered 8 Uboxes for a 4 bedroom house. But two of the doors wouldn't close after loading, likely due to weight in the Ubox taking the door off square. It was able to be closed once the forklift came to pick up. I needed to put my household goods in storage before moving into a new place, so this was the most economical option compared to other containers I researched.
This company was a nightmare to communicate with. I spent almost 4 hours on the phone getting a box. Every person I talked to transferred me to someone else who told me they'd call me right back. Nothing was consistent. I would definitely not use again. Also, there seems to only be one delivery person in each city.
The actual moving of my belonging went as planned. They, however, overcharged my for the monthly rental on the Uboxes and I have yet to get a refund of that money. They keep promising to research it and call me back but as of today that has not happened. Customer service for the Ubox side of U-Haul is incompetent in every way. (I used three boxes.)
NEVER AGAIN. This was the worst customer service experience I've ever had with any company. Pay the extra money for PODS - if you are unlucky enough to have any of the multitude of major problems I had with UHaul during this move, it will be well worth it. Terrible, awful experience from beginning to end.
I would not recommend U-Boxes to anyone. 1) I was unable to order them on-line due to too many limitations in their program; 2) Order arranged with a man at their 800 number . . . all seemed well . . . I knew when my pods would arrive near my destination and the day they would be delivered to my new house . . . I was to expect a call a few days prior to set up the exact time; 3) The pods were to come with 12 furniture pads each, but there was only one set initially, and finally, they provided us with 3 of 4 sets saying there was a shortage in the Texas Panhandle; 4) I ordered 4 pods - 3 were recommended (3 bedroom/1330 sq ft home) . . . I just went back to the site so I could document their exact recommendations, and there is new information . . . they now recommend 4 boxes for an average 3 bedroom home, which I would say mine is . . . what didn't fit in the pods? - and my husband who loaded them has worked as a professional mover . . . 2, 2 foot wide tall book shelves, 2 living room chairs, 2 decorative chairs, kitchen table and chairs, dinet table and chairs, 2 children's desks and dressers, queen-sized box springs, my stans-up writing desk, all the kitchenware boxes and many more small boxes. We were never planning to bring our old couch, so that wouldn't have fit either. Lawnmower, dishwasher and chest freezer didn't make it either. 5) Now, we have rented a truck from Budget so that we can drive the rest to California ourselves; 6) The day the pods were to be delivered, I had not yet received a call as to the time. I called U-Haul, and they wanted to know where in Pomona they were delivered to, and all I had been told was Pomona. When I was connected to that facility, they could neither find me by my name nor the contract number. They had no knowledge of the pods let alone the fact they were to be delivered. Finally, they located my pods and said they could be delivered the next week. UGH! I work out of state every other week, and I had timed everything to coincide properly. I told them I would pick them up myself; 7) I had to make 4 separate trips to retrieve the pods one by one, and they had to be returned the same way; 8) Now, I have to check my invoice . . . though I could not find it the last time I looked, because I opted to pay extra for delivery to my home, and I need to know whether I was charged for a service that was not provided. What I see is failure, in this 3-step delivery process is that one end does not communicate with the other end, and the one who gets left with the problem is the customer. I gave them a Below Average Rating because they at least got whatever fit into the pods from Texas to California when they said they would. I will never use UBoxes again, and though I have used U-Haul Trucks many times, Budget now has the opportunity for my current and future business. Alos, I was supposed to complete an On-Line Gypsy Moth Survey which I was told was very important, and I could never get the form to submit. Tried it about 4 times in total over the time of the move. No one ever mentioned it again.
I was moving from the Philadelphia area to Charlotte and didn't want to get a UHaul truck and drive 600 miles myself. Additionally, I needed my car to get there. I chose the UBox method and it worked out extremely well. They delivered the UBoxes (2) right my driveway. We had them loaded and ready for the next day. The driver didn't arrive until 9pm on Saturday night to get them which was fine with me. They squeezed me into their schedule and committed to getting the boxes picked up on that day in order to get the boxes to Charlotte on time. They arrived in Charlotte with no issues and no damages to our furniture and contents. It was a great way to move our belongings!
