A-1 Movers did a great job! We hired them for 2 hours and they finished in just over an hour and loaded our truck quickly and professionally, I will definitely be using them for future moves!

A-1 was great from the beginning to end. They called me right away to go over the details of the move and called to confirm the night before.
On the day of the move, the movers called me to and gave me an eta which was very helpful for my planning. And then the actual move was phenomenal. They hustled yet were extremely careful with my belongings and the house. Nothing was damaged. That's something I'd be able to say if I had done it myself. Absolutely recommend them and will use them next time I need movers.

Hard working guys got the job done ahead of schedule. I will definitely use them again.

Great bunch of guys. Eager to get the job done.

Originally they were to start between 12 and 1...& I booked them for 3 hours.
I got a call from the owner a couple of days before the move and there was a terrible car accident and one of his moving crews (2 men) were not available to work the same day as my job. ( my sincerest condolences to the family, friends and workmates of the one lost...and best wishes to the other one hurt inthe accident)
So we made arrangements for my job to be moved back a few hours.
The 2 men that came to do our job were very nice and polite...but you could tell that they were tired because before they came to our job they had done 2 other jobs to cover for the work that was originally scheduled for that day.
Ended up we had 1 guy that had to come in to "cover" for one of the other guys...this guy was in an unrelated vehicle accident a few days prior and the 2nd gentleman was an inexperienced mover learning the ropes.
My "job" involved moving ONLY furniture... No moving boxes or little items. My wife and I spent many days after work and weekends moving those ourselves.
I rented and drove a 26' uhaul truck myself for the job.
These guys were tired...my wife, my friend and I moved items to the truck also and we also helped unload the not so heavy items with these gentlemen...but because it was there 3rd job and they were tired we still went over my allotted time of 3 hours. My new house was 7 miles from where I was moving out of...so travel time was irrelevant .
And several times during the unloading "B" appologized for taking so long and "burning thru my wallet" because of how long it was taking.
He literally had to direct the inexperienced guy on EVERY step to take from lifting to stepping to turning and readjusting grip etc. for EVERY piece of furniture.
I requested moving handtruck and pads on my order and when I spoke to Sarah, and she assured me they would have all that. They showed up with a $20 truck from Home Depot. I was less than impressed with that, because a moving company should have a moving truck with straps and all. This thing could barely move my washer, which fell off of it right in front of me when they were unloading it...fell on the foot of the newer guy. I had to lift the machine off the kid's foot for him.
They also dropped an antique butcher block table off the ramp because of this stupid dolly/handtruck...the table is solid maple 10" thick by 20" wide by 40" long. Weighed about 200lbs. They had NO straps to secure anything to the handtruck.
The butcher table is OVER 100 yrs old! Thankfully they knew how build quality items back then...every piece was dovetail jointed. I will probably be able to fix it myself. ( I am a finish carpenter)
I have a custom upholstered daybed that was upside down on the uhaul when they packed it. When they were taking it off the truck I watched as he slid it along the floor and I cringed...it now has wet BLACK smears across the arms. I mentioned it to the lead man and he told me that it was from stuff my grill spilled on the floor...the other guy came back to the truck as we were discussing it and he said it was probably from the floor ... And when I called the A1 office they said UHaul would be responsible! Later on B said it was because my washing machine didn't drain and leaked...My point though is that it STILL WAS NOT PROTECTED from the floor while it was dragged across "grill juice" or "washing machine leaking" etc. Now I'm stuck with getting it cleaned.
My leather couch is all gouged up from bringing it in the house, and my living room floors that my land lord just polyurethane finished has gouges in it from moving the furniture.
So by the end of it I owed an extra 2 hours for the job...so I had to write a check for the extra hours (that were even B admitted verbally should not have taken so long)
So I had a tired crew show up, took extral long to do the job which had NO tedious back and forth trips with boxes and little items etc. just moving furniture from a 4 room apt, 1st & 2 floor to a first floor apt 8 miles away. Took 5 hours! Even with my wife and and frien and I helping with the not so heavy items.
But the worst part of it ALL was after trying to bea nice guy and even feeding the movers pizza and soda after the job and trying not to get too irked was that Sarah called from 7:45 til 10 pm that night on my cell phone and my wife's demanding release of payment regardless of the damage to our property, or the landlords. She claimed " that would have to be taken up with UHaul..."they have insurance"
HOW IS UHAUL RESPONSIBLE FOR RUINING MY COUCH, DROPPING A 100 yr old antique table, or gouging my living room floor?
I do give credit to the movers, they did try to be careful while moving INTO the apt...just getting it off the truck could have used more care and while moving the heavy furniture while it was in the house. They were nice guys, but using them cost ALOT MORE than their advertised price when you factor in repair cost and refinishing cost etc...plus the aggrivation of having Sarah call nonstop and text you relentlessly to release payment WHILE the Hire a helper office is CLOSED.
WHen Sarah called my wife, my wife respectfully explained that she understands that accidents happen and damage can occur when people are over-worked...and that they may not work at the same pace as usual...but because they were already tired when they got to our job, we suffered the consequences of damage to items and that the job took a lot longer than it should have...and that it was not fair that we would have to pay for the extra time it took them to do their job.
All Sarah replied was..." Well...what I need YOU to do is RELEASE the payment"
And she called multiple times after that even after my wife explained that the number to call was closed and it was just a message machine.
I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE WHO DOESNT WANT TO ADD STRESS TO THE ALREADY STRESSFUL TASK OF MOVING.
1. On time?
...that had to be changed due to unforeseen circumstances on their part.
2. prepared for the job?
... Cheesy equipment barely suitable for the job, causing damage to items falling, and almost injuring one of their workers.
3. Work hard?
...overworked, had to come into work injured so he could cover to get the days jobs done...we were 3rd job and took several billable hours more than it reasonably should have.
4. They were respectful of property and goods, but they still damaged it even if it was accidentally...
5. Use again?
...No
Workers are nice guys, but the damage is still costing me money and time. And when you talk reasonably to the office, they pass the buck to the truck rental company which makes NO sense, since it was the moving company that did not protect the items while moving them off the truck and into the house, and the damage in the house.
And even when you call them on it, they still hound you demanding release of payment.
They will sound all nice on the phone with you until AFTER the job and that is when she doesn't give a $#!+ about you anymore and just wants payment.
you wanted them to rush and nothing get damaged ,are you kidding ,
also for the record the hand truck the boys used was a $150.00 hand truck purchased from uhaul , so you have no idea what you are talking about ,
we provide a "helper" service ,for very cheap money , if you had called a full service moving company with full insurance it would have cost you around $3000.00, in short nice try wrong guy

I chose this service because they were rated so well. I arranged the appointment over a week in advance. When I spoke with them on the phone they were courteous and professional. I thought we were all set. I was very surprised and disappointed to receive an email message at 9:30 p.m. the night prior to my appointment stating the job had been cancelled. I understand that things happen, but cancelling with no reason is just not very professional. Luckily I found someone else who did an excellent job.
hire a helper did contact us and we had told them what was going on , and assured us they would take care of you,
this typically does not happen , and will not happen again ,

Absolutely a pleasure to work with. Brendon and Marcus were the best with a special shout out to Brendon for managing to fit everything into the 10x10 unit we rented. There was a possibility we'd have to rent a 2nd unit due to the amount of items we had but he did it.

I don't usually write reviews, but I would be remits if I didn't write one for A-1 Movers. They were punctual, professional, and very efficient. They moved me from a 3 bedroom apt 3rd floor walk-up within 4 hours. They're the best I've seen. I highly recommend them.
good luck and god bless
