(April 2022): The job and agreement with Superior Services requested and paid for was to load furniture and belongings only. Move the items from a third-floor apartment via elevator to a moving truck and properly, safely and timely load and secure the belongings during the contracted time. The helpers had available to them an additional hand truck and additional flatbed carts from the apartment complex maintenance personnel. Also available were tie-down ropes, bungee cords, packing tape, furniture wrap and three dozen blankets. The large number of blankets and furniture wrap were available to wrap furniture for protection – this was explained to the helpers when these items were made available to them. There was no inventory submitted because the belongings were loaded on site and not transported by a third party.

The helpers arrived on time (11 a.m.). I had explained during the pre-meeting telephone call that I needed furniture loaded first and foremost during the two-hour block (11 a.m.-1 p.m.) — this did not happen. The duo loaded as they deemed appropriate. There was no additional discussion/explanation concerning procedure or protocol in the process. I explained I was on a time schedule and needed the furniture loaded first because that was the most important chronology for this move - this was explained during the pre-meeting call, again when they arrived and again after one hour and again at the two-hour mark. At the two-hour mark (1 p.m.), and more than two-thirds of the furniture not loaded - I was told by one of the helpers they only needed 45 more minutes to finish so I paid them - on the spot in cash, as he requested - an additional $100 to finish the job. They continued, this time loading furniture but in a helter skelter, careless manner. Items were carelessly placed in the truck, stacked upon each other with no blankets around or between individual pieces (such as wooden tables placed on top of each other – surface to surface); none securely tied down; furniture was placed in precarious positions - one chair leg was broken off and other damages followed. I located the broken chair leaning against a wall near the elevator and showed it to one of the helpers, he said I would need to report it. (This specific chair has been examined by a professional furniture restorer and repair person. He said the chair was a total loss and could not be repaired well enough to sit in again because of its age (more than 30 years old) and the specialized method of craftsmanship. He valued the chair at $1,500-$1,800. Therefore, this chair is irreplaceable.) After looking around more and seeing additional damages to pieces of furniture and seeing how the belongings were being loaded, I told the Superior Services representatives to stop and just leave (1:50 p.m.). I did not want any more possessions damaged or destroyed. A sofa was loaded across the width of the truck with one outside leg on top of the interior wheel well and the other outside leg on top of the opposite wheel well and no support in the center which was 2-3 inches off the ground. In my opinion, if that arrangement had been left unchallenged, the sofa frame would have been broken under any pressure or weight.

There were also numerous boxes damaged – either torn or crushed – the labels we placed on the boxes “Fragile,” “Extremely Fragile” apparently didn’t mean anything to the movers. Photos of damaged boxes are attached but not all boxes damaged are presented because there were too many to include.

After the helpers left, and they asked for me to submit a good review for them, I took a partial inventory of the visible belongings that had already been packed or moved from the apartment to the loading area by the helpers. There were multiple damages observed and categorized before they left.

There were several items packed and loaded by them that could not be reviewed or inspected until the unloading process. However, as another Hire a Helper team unloaded the truck at the destination, more damages became evident and were documented (see attached photos). This is only a small representation of the number of damaged items I observed and categorized.

The large quantity of blankets (3 dozen) and furniture wrap were scarcely used and the damages to the belongings and furniture have well exceeded the total cost of the Hire a Helper (Superior Services) invoice. Damages have reached into the hundreds and possibly thousands of dollars. This was not an acceptable business experience and reflects extremely poorly not only on Superior Services but also on Hire a Helper overall.

The particular team in Dallas will not be hired again nor will I recommend them. This was a disastrous and highly unsatisfactory experience and I consider it a considerable waste of time, an extreme waste of money plus the damages to my possessions are unacceptable, inexcusable and irreplaceable.

Mover's response:
This does not sound like the type of situations our customers experience with us.
Mr. Fred didn’t pay in cash because he had already prepaid using his card. It seems strange to pay “on the spot in cash” if you’ve already prepaid with a card just like everyone else.
Another thing we will never do is attempt to appraise furniture, broken or not. If at any time there are damages photos will be taken and submitted for review.
Mr. Fred was obviously not happy with the service he received from us, but the number of discrepancies in this story lead to question the validity of his statements.

A call when a crew is in route to your location. Once on-site we will do a quick walk-thru with you and get right to work.

How should a customer prepare for moving day?

Remove all the contents from any furniture that is being moved. If you have pets be sure to have a designate place where they can be kept during the move. If your moving date is draw to a close and you are have not fully packed you can always call us and we can have an experienced packer there the day before the move to help you be ready.

What types of moves have you handled?

We have moved everything from retail stores, offices and homes to fountains, music and sports equipment. We've also moved weddings, animals, college dorms, pods, pack rats, u-boxes, containers and a wide range of small trailers to big trucks. There nothing we have not seen before so if you have a doubt about an unorthodox situation don't hesitate to call us so we can offer a quick solution.
