The Cost of Moving Services in Raleigh, NC

Our platform makes it easy to choose how much of your move you want to handle and find moving companies within your budget. You might choose full-service movers, who bring a truck, handle the heavy lifting, and take care of the driving for you.

Or, if you’re looking to save money by doing more yourself, labor-only movers can load and unload your belongings from a truck or storage container you’ve rented.

See how options impact moving costs in the table below.

The Cost of Labor-Only Movers in Raleigh

Did you know? More than 1 out of 3 HireAHelper customers who select our labor-only moving service use the help to load or unload their PODS container.

If you want someone to lift the burden of heavy boxes off your shoulders, moving labor will cost you an average of $73.76 per hour.

You might save money by moving on a Tuesday or in April, as labor-only moving costs rise and fall with the seasons, and premium weekend moving times are pricier.

Size matters too! See how home size impacts labor-only moving costs in the table below.

The Cost of a Local Full-Service Move in Raleigh

Hiring a full-service moving company is more expensive, but you won't have to source a moving truck yourself or deal with loading and unloading your things. You also don't drive the truck, reducing the stress of navigating busy Raleigh roads or backing a big truck up to your new residence.

An average full-service move costs $721.21. However, Tuesday moves and those scheduled in April are generally less expensive.

Kenny and CJ absolutely crushed it. They did two different houses for us and both times packed our stuff in PODS. They filled the PODS very efficiently filling top to bottom and front to back using all the space and everything was protected. They were on time, work hard, and very friendly. 10/10 I’d recommend them to anyone.

To say that Leon and William were phenomenal would be an understatement. They were efficient and knew exactly how to move furniture without damaging the walls or the furniture. The U-haul was meticulously loaded and didn't move an inch during the 30 minute drive. We will without a doubt be using Second's Movers on our next move. I would rate them 10 stars if I could.

The movers were on time. Very efficient in the moving process and did a good job in optimizing space in the trailer. Only one downside was that they were a little clumsy on the handling part. The TV unit had a broken cabinet door and a few boxes were damaged during unloading. Other than that, we had a good experience!

HireAHelper's Moving Guide for Raleigh

Tip 1: Pack With Pollen in Mind During March and April

Spring might be the traditional time for new beginnings, but it’s also pollen season.

If you don’t have allergies, you might not think much of it, but in late March and April, a thick layer of yellow pollen covers anything left outside for more than a few minutes — including your upholstered furniture and appliances if you're in the middle of a move.

Consider covering furniture and other items with protective plastic so they don’t discolor, and you don't fill your new home with allergens.

Bonus tip: Check the pollen count on Allermi so you can plan proactively for moving day.

Tip 2: Reserve Moving Trucks Early During Commencement and Graduation

For a few weeks in May and August, the college crowd overtakes the moving scene near NSCU and other schools. Some students roll up with everything they need shoved in the trunk, but many families invest in moving trucks.

If you schedule your move during college moving weeks, consider reserving a truck well in advance.

Bonus tip: When NCSU has an event on the calendar that coincides with your move, plan moving routes to avoid Western Boulevard, Hillsborough Street, or the Beltline near the college exits.

Tip 3: Avoid I-40 and I-440 During Peak Congestion

Try to avoid the I-440 and I-40 during peak traffic hours — or at all if you can.

If you're moving all day, schedule it so you're packing and loading before 9:30am and unloading after 4:30pm Driving during midday hours can help reduce your overall move time if you need to hit the interstate or Beltline.

Bonus tip: Download a traffic app, such as WPTF Triangle Traffic, so you can avoid delays and keep your move on track.
