I hired Budget Hauling LLC to load a POD several months ago and several pieces of furniture were damaged as a result of how they packed the items as well as failing to wrap them. I am disappointed and will not longer use them or Hire a Helper.
The POD was large and they stacked everything high up on one end with about 40% of the space unused. This poor distribution of items in the space and the fact they did not wrap all the items were the main reason for the damage. They should have spread things out evenly and at the same level so there was not chance for shifting in transport.
When I opened my POD I saw the bulk of the items had lurched during transport. Smaller boxes had fallen from where they were perched. Luckily I packed those and contents were fine.
A new West Elm bed frame was used behind a bike and clothing rack to brace the load and not wrapped at all. The top of the headboard and sides were directly on the floor of the POD. The pressure on the wood literally sanded down the edges.
- A pair of beautiful Antique end tables had been in pristine condition The table that had been on the bottom had too much weight on it. The legs had brass with wheels at the base. Two were bent and two just cracked completely from the pressure, forever ruining the set.
I contacted David Weider at Budget Hauling LLC. He insisted I was at fault, as I did not provide moving pads, which I did. On that note they did bring plastic and wrap many of the pieces with this or moving pads but not consistently. I know that they didn’t use all the pads because when they were finishing up there were a pair of counter stools and I made them wrap those because I happened to catch it. David also tried to put the blame on PODS responsible for transport or the guys I hired to unload the POD. I explained that I saw the damage prior to the POD being unloaded but he did not listen.
I paid for 3 hours and the guys completed the packing in about half the time. I wish they had taken their time instead of rushing thru and allowing my items to get damaged. Very unhappy with the service and having my furniture ruined.

Excellent company. Both young men arrived in time and worked extremely hard, but were very strategic and tried to fit as much furniture safely as they could into a small storage. They never complained and were very friendly. They even helped wrap a few pieces and disassembled my bed free of charge to help make it work. Great 2 hrs of labor saved my back.

How should a customer prepare for moving day?
Boxes labeled priority level. Any and all small items to be moved down stairs to save on time the move takes. Boxes to be taped, color coded for specific rooms etc. Make sure your electronics are charged and you have all emergency items in a known location. Be ready to allow the movers access to belongings at the time they arrive so that they can get right to work without time wasted. We know you want to help, but allow the movers the space and decision making to move efficiently. Communicate before loading
