Ben and Darius were outstanding. They had experience packing a POD, hustled throughout the process, were careful with every piece. By careful packing, they filled the POD right up to the closure door. It was a tight load, just what we wanted and needed. I am requesting both men to help us unload when we move back in to the renovated apartment in December. I’m insisting on it!

Major Neighborhoods in Richmond

As the capital of Virginia, Richmond is a metro with a lot to offer. While not strictly a college town, Virginia Commonwealth University fills many parts of the city with students and the vibe of being on an extended campus. There are also a lot of landmarks and buildings that have history built into the foundations, but the top one is probably St. John’s Church, where Patrick Henry gave his famous “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” speech. Art buffs have a place to love in the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, which features pieces by local artists and rotating exhibits. If you're planning on making this your new home, you’ll want to enlist the help of local movers who have experience with the city's roads, parking, and eccentricities.

The Fan District

Also known as simply “The Fan,” the Fan District is centered on the busy VCU campus. As you'd expect from a neighborhood that serves a lot of students, there are plenty of coffee shops, boutiques, brewpubs, and live music venues. Try the open-air concerts and festivals hosted on Brown’s Island, an artificial island in the middle of the James River. You can also stroll along that riverfront or check out a tour of the John Marshall House, the former home of Chief Justice John Marshall. Of course, being a neighborhood with a university means that the traffic conditions change seasonally in The Fan, so consider hiring local movers familiar with the patterns. Their know-how helps them get you to your new home stress-free.

Church Hill

Church Hill combines the city's history with a restaurant selection that's any foodie's dream. Even better, it's incredibly walkable, which is great for day-to-day errands and exploring popular spots. As for where to begin, try 8 ½ for Italian takeout or drop by Alewife if you're craving mid-Atlantic seafood. You can hang out with a miniature-sized Statue of Liberty at Chimborazo Park, or take a walk through Libby Hill Park, which offers some incredible views of the city lights and the riverfront. In fact, it's said that "Richmond" got its name because the view of the James River is the same as the Thames from Richmond Hill in London. So if you want to live by that iconic view yourself, rely on local movers to make your relocation a breeze.

Carytown

Carytown is a hotspot known as “The Mile of Style”, undoubtedly because of the bright murals painted on the sides of some buildings and the unique stores that call the neighborhood home. Plan 9 Music is one of those shops, and you should absolutely visit if you're a music lover or vinyl collector. You can also do a grocery run at Elwood Thompson’s, a locally-owned organic market that has a juice bar too. Byrd Theater (aka "The Movie Palace") has been around since the late 1920s and still screens modern movies — the architecture and history alone is worth at least one visit. Planning to join the Carytown community? Then check out our list of local movers who will help take over the logistics for you.

Shockoe Bottom

If you like to live right next to history, then Shockoe Bottom is a perfect fit. This neighborhood sits on the riverside in the Northeastern part of the city, and is home to places like the Edgar Allen Poe Museum, where fans can learn more about the famous author’s life. There's also Tobacco Row, where you can see the facades of old warehouses that have since been repurposed into apartments and other buildings. The neighborhood hosts the weekly 17th Street Market, which is one of the longest-running farmer's markets in the country. Before you start packing, though, be sure to check into hiring local movers to help with your relocation. They can navigate around the area's traffic and older streets with ease.
