The helpers showed up right on time, and immediately got to work moving my items into the moving truck. I was packing up the last few things from the bathroom, when one of the movers asked if he could use the bathroom. I stepped out, and when I walked back in, he left his iPhone on the vanity with a video of a man masturbating, knowing that I would be going back into the bathroom to finish packing. He left the phone like that for about half an hour. Even though my skin was crawling at that point, I needed to move my house, so I didn't say anything. Once the truck was loaded and my friend drove it to my new house, they began unloading the truck. I was carrying a box up my stairs, when this same helper asked if he could take it for me. When he reached over, he grabbed more than just the Box. I just brushed it off as incidental, but then he did it a second time when I was carrying another box, so I avoided him completely. He kept telling me that he owns a business on the side (although he didn't say what kind of business it was), and that he was only working to help out his friend who owns this company. He offered several times to come back help me unpack or move things, and I continually declined his offer. He also disappeared for long periods when bringing easy to carry items upstairs. I had a few items that they said would not be able to go up the stairs, but they said for an extra $100 they could hoist them up to the second floor through a window. I agreed to pay that. They did get the items upstairs safely and without damage. After that they said their time was up so they had to leave. I had them follow me to an ATM, and paid them the $100. This same individual then said that I owed him more money. I called hire-a-helper to confirm this, and they said no and that my card would get charged for any authorized extra work and to not give them additional cash. Finally rid of them, I went back to my house and discovered that several of my boxes had been opened, and my luggage unzipped, stuffed in a corner, hidden under some other boxes. Additionally, several of the items that were marked to go to rooms upstairs were left downstairs including my mattress, part of my desk, a bench and a bookcase. I only discovered this when I started moving some things around. They were hidden under a bunch of boxes and moving blankets, and it was obvious that they didn't want to move the heavy items that could fit up the stairs. What I did find upstairs, however were dozens of boxes and furniture items marked for rooms that were downstairs. If they had brought the right items to the proper floors, everything would have been where it was supposed to be within the allotted time. I guess if continued to stand there and be harrassed, I could have ensured that everything went where it was supposed to go. Normally, I wouldn't write a bad review about a company unless it was really bad experience, but a lot of the things that this one particular mover did was completely uncalled for and unforgivable. I actually had no issues with the second mover. He worked diligently the entire time.
