Our past experiences with HireAHelper have been great, but this time, it was an enormous let down, and we're very disappointed in the customer service as well.
We contracted for 4 helpers for 3 hours. 3 showed up and worked for 4 hours. Although, they provided 12 man-hours as contracted, three people working for 4 hours does not result in the same amount and quality of service that 4 men working for 3 hours would provide.
These 3 men were NOT at all respectful of our belongings, dropping boxes, overloading the hand-truck and then pulling hard/roughly down the staircase without regard of the contents in the boxes.
In the time that the crew spent "loading" the truck, they were compensating for their lack of planning. This is the first time in my 13 moves that I observed small items being loaded into the trailer first, and leaving large items such as Sofa (1 sofa 1 love seat), mattresses (1 single and 2 full beds), a ping pong table etc get loaded later over small items. The top of the truck was vastly empty. This 3 man crew were the WORST crew that we have come across. They were not able to load our belongings, that was estimated to need only 22 feet of trailer space, into a 28 feet trailer. Infact, we now have to rent a U-Haul to move our remaining belongings to our new home. It was like they showed up just to get paid for the day without any pride in their work, or safety of others.
With the way they attempted to stuff the truck with our belongings and the loading ramp included with the truck, we have a serious safety concern for when we open the door at destination. We are truly skeptical that the roll up door will even open, as the hinges were getting stuck on the contents, and they forced the door closed over the contents. They didn't put the provided bulk head up to deter shifting. With everything shifting towards the back upon acceleration, we are concerned that many of the heavy items loaded up high (without securing) at the back of the truck are going to fall on an unloader and seriously hurt them or destroy our belongings, or both.
PLEASE BE WARNED, DO NOT HIRE SMOOTH MOVE to help with your move.
In addition to the lack of professionalism of Smooth Move as the subcontractor, HireAHelper offered a standard reimbursement of 1 hr worth of labor, $135 in this case. You either take the reimbursement, or choose to file a claim against the crew, not both. And HireAHelper says they'll hand this off to their Claims department with no guarantees or any inkling of historically typical resolutions. They also mentioned that if loading into a freight trailer, that you waive all rights to filing claims for damages, regardless of the movers' professionalism or level of care which they handle your belongings.
Just a word of warning for those interested in asking HireAHelper to help you with your move.

The 2 gentlemen showed up on time on one of the hottest days of the year so far. They weren't prepared for the heat and had to run out for water, and one of them fell out after about an hour. I give them an A for effort, since Cam stepped up and basically did the work of two with my limited help. We ran over the scheduled time by an hour but I was not charged for it due to the circumstances.
