ABF Relocube® Reviews
ReloCubees were very good - one brand new and even the used one was watertight and everything worked. We rented the cubes for a month at our home in Syracuse, NY, to pack them. U-Pack picked them up when they said they would. There was a bit of confusion about the delivery but they cleared that up quickly and did a great job (Thanks, Chris and Selma!) delivering the pods from their Knoxville terminal and then picking them up promptly.
UPack is wonderful! I used the Relocube container for the first time. I was so nervous that my items would be damaged within the container during transport across state lines. I was pleasantly surprised to see everything intact and in great condition. Nothing had been damaged. Of course I had all delicate furniture pieces covered & protected first. But nothing got damaged during transport. I am so relieved.
The people were wonderful on both ends, but the container was not in good condition. Water leaked in ruining a sofa, mattress and wool rug (covered in mold and mildew - it's summer, stuff grows fast!). According to their policy, I was supposed to be able to inspect their container and know if it would leak :( Waiting for call on Monday - the people are really great, but I do think it is a lot to ask for me to inspect their container (which would require a ladder for me to examine the seal that leaked).
The Relocube itself is smaller than you might expect, but it can fit more than you might expect. We had no problem fitting an oversized couch, box springs plus mattress, wardrobe boxes, a dining room table, a fairly large mirror, an entertainment center, and nearly a dozen assorted medium to large boxes in a single cube. In fact, we were worried we left too much space for things to shake around. Nontheless, everything arrived intact and in good, if dusty, condition. The delivery drivers in both locations were friendly and helpful, and the dispatchers were generally reachable and communicative regarding logistics. The only mild complaint I have centers around pick-up and drop-off times - you're given a four-hour window, either in the morning or afternoon, during which your cube can be picked up or dropped off, and it can vary wildly within that window. Our cube was fully packed and ready to go by 2 p.m., but wasn't picked up until close to 6 p.m., which can be a bit frustrating if you're nervous about a cube on a busy street. Strong locks and careful pod positioning can ease your minds, however - one of the delivery drivers smartly advised us to use parallel-parked cars to block would-be burglars.
There are a number of details that aren't fully disclosed in the move plan and reservation call. If you don't know to ask and confirm you'll run into issues. The issues I had: was told moving help was requested / included but I actually had to call the moving help company and confirm the reservation. I didn't know and my movers were cancelled. I had to scramble last minute. The delivery driver did not have a fork lift so my driveway was damaged. I didn't realize the storage facility was not climate controlled. These were major issues for me. I probably wouldn't use them again.
The cubes I ordered were dirty and I had to clean them out before I could load. The customer service agent I worked with gave me misleading information claiming that I had 3 business days to load the cubes at a shipping cargo site and could continue to load through the weekend as I would have access. Turns out that was not the case. I had access to the cubes on a thursday, loaded some boxes Friday and then was locked out of grounds through the weekend and the cubes were loaded first thing Monday morning!! I had to leave behind thousands of dollars worth of furniture and personal belongings because I was moving from Alaska to California. When I called the company they were unsympathetic, and implied I was lying about the agent telling me I would have access to the units to load through the weekend. I spent nearly $8,000 with UPACK to move my belongings and in return I was given a refund of $200 for my inconvenience. Upack is a joke. Don't use them. I should have listened to my friend when he told me they did a half-ass job moving his belongings from Alaska to Atlanta.
I didn’t want to have to drive a moving truck towing my car behind it, so the ReloCubes were an amazing option. I liked that you can track the cubes (none of the other cube/box/pod services offered this to my knowledge) and that ABF has a quick turnaround (my boxes arrived in 3 days - PODs quoted me a 9 day turnaround). My customer service experience in my original terminal (Birmingham, AL) was not great. They told me the empty cubes would be delivered late afternoon and then called at 9 am to say they were on their way. Since I was at work, I had to call my apartment manager to meet them and determine placement. I was surprised my 2BR apartment fit into 2 cubes (packed very tightly), but in future, I may use the freight space option because I don’t know that I could fit anymore in the cubes. Otherwise, I would use them again. Great experience!
ABF and their affiliates were sooo helpful in my cross-country move! I wanted an economical but reliable option and I found it with ABF. The woman in SF office went above and beyond when I had a move-in glitch with my building. She arranged new permits with the city so I wouldn't be ticketed for the container being on the street for longer than anticipated! I am so grateful for her help!!
If I had to do again I would not use Relocubes. When they were delivered they messed up our yard. When they came to pick them up they sent a tow tuck and were going to drag the cubes out of the driveway. This would have messed up the concrete in the driveway, the yard and the road! It clearly states that a forklift needs to be used to move them. The only convenience about using these is not having to transport your own stuff and that's about it.
I was happy with the service received from Wolfgang and Gunner. They were on time, efficient, friendly and got the job done quickly. They also had the tools needed to get the job done. This was a long-distance move, so packing my moving containers properly was important. They did a good job in that there was only minor damage to some of my furniture with 'rubbing' marks and a sliver of wood broken from the bottom of a bookcase. They used the blankets and pillows I provided as well as most of the strapping to keep everything secure. They worked well as a team and did a few extra things for me too (disassembled a few items, put my mattress bag on for me, and used my packing for the glass tabletop - which I appreciated)
This is the third time I've used U-Pack. The cubes have arrived on time and been picked up promptly when I call them. I really like that they are close to the ground (opposed to using a truck). Makes it easy to get things in and out. Another thing I really like is that they will bring one extra cube. If you fill it you pay otherwise they take it back for free.
I had a great experience working with ABF Upack. It definitely made my move easier and way less stressful! The steps for coordinating pickup and delivery of the relocate were very straightforward and all of the people I encountered with the company were extremely friendly and helpful. I would recommend this service, especially to anyone moving long distances.
Cheaper than using an actual moving or freight company and everything about the process was explained well, straight forward, no hidden fees or surprises. Really appreciated how flexible they were about delivering the relocube to my new place. I had to delay the delivery for an extra week but there was no extra charge, and they told me to take as much time as I needed to unload the relocube once it was delivered. The items in my pod didn't seem to shift much even though they traveled over 3000 miles. Very pleased and would definitely use them again.
My condo complex has a fountain roundabout entry and is part of a cluster of other condo complexes, so access with a large truck is very difficult (if not impossible). I was thrilled to discover that UPack delivers its cubes with a forklift for maneuverability and finessing placement. John, the driver, was generally familiar with my location, so he knew to park his rig on the main road and shuttle the two cubes about three blocks to their resting place in a single parking spot. He happened to also pick up the cubes and waited a few minutes for me to stash just one more box before waving goodbye. I am storing a cube in Oakland before having it transported to Tucson, so my move isn't yet complete. However, based on my experience so far, I would definitely use them for another move. Notes: 1) You can specify a morning or afternoon 4-hour window for the drop off, but not for pick-up; 2) you can use one of those round, hard to cut/break locks rather than what is specified in the move plan that they email to you.
Have used this company many times in moves from East to West and West to East. They make moving simple and fast and my items always arrive safe and I damaged. Customer Service is outstanding from initial contact through drop off, pickup, and delivery. Just so easy to work with them. Used other rentals and moving companies but absolutely nothing compares to ABF Relocubes for cost, efficiency and ease.
Good service from UPack. They were flexible and I was able to order up a 2nd ReloCube. There was some confusion with the Oakland dispatch, though, on telling me things different from what the national office told me in terms of same-day pickups. The Portland end of things went very smoothly. They delivered as promised, on time!
Wonderful customer service at all locations. I appreciated that they worked with us and did everything to accommodate our needs. The trailers were in good condition and the drivers arrived on time. We have not unpacked our trailer's yet so I can not speak to the condition of belongings upon arrival. That is for another review.
Armondo arrived on time with trailer, picked it up on time..everything seamless, super nice guy. Upack stored my packed trailer, reasonable price, & everything arrived back to me exactly as it was packed, untouched, secure, nothing broken. Will definitely use again..if I ever get crazy idea to move again. Thanks ABF Upack.
