ABF UPack® Reviews
The drivers were helpful and pleasant; however, I had to pay extra to get the U-Pack trailer delivered when I needed it. I would strongly discourage the use of Moving Staffers, their moving diivision. I would rate them POOR!!!!. The movers they sent were belligerent, argumentative and unprofessional, and to make things right, Moving Staffers was only willing to compensate me $150 - what an insult!!
I love ABF U-Pack. This is t second time I've moved with them. Both long distance cross country moves. For a reasonable price, they can give you a guaranteed delivery date. As long as you have competent movers to help you load the trailer well where you stuff doesn't slide around and break- you're good. I always pack all my crockery and picture frames well and I haven't lost a single item or broken a single thing in my two moves. Your stuff is also separated from the rest of the freight so there is literally no worry about things being lost- the way you close the trailer is the way it looks when you open it. One tip if you are moving in the summer- do not put candles in with clothes--- they will melt everywhere. Buy new candles... It's easier. Absolutely cannot say enough good things about ABF UPACK... Easy to work with, responsive on the phone (you don't get sent to voicemail at all), and they don't charge your credit card until your stuff is loaded.
They 28 ft trailer was perfect for my move from California to Arizona. The trailer was in great condition. Customer service was absolutely easy to deal with and they answered all my questions. The drivers were super friendly during drop of and pick up. The ultimate decision came down to cost compared to full service moving companies. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone moving a long distance.
This will be the 3rd time we've used the ABF UPack trailer and we're not quite as satisfied this time but it got the job done. We used a full 28 foot trailer and 7 feet inside a second trailer for a reasonable price of approximately $3500. The 2 trailers were probably the worst we've gotten yet unfortunately. Dirty, dented and full of patched holes, the worst part was the tie down areas had lots of jagged ripped metal parts that had to be pounded down before we could load around them. Still, it worked. Booking, drop off and pick up all went smoothly (although I won't take the driver at his word that he swept them next time). We'll see our goods again in about a week since they only count business days for transit time. 3 days to unload the trailer on the other end is usually plenty of time. It takes a bit more planning ahead to park the trailers and it's more costly then a rental truck but not having to worry about a limited space in a truck and not having to drive all the goods ourselves makes it all worth it.
The guy that dropped off the trailer was cool but the container itself was an ugly piece of junk. It looked like it had been pushed out the back of a C-5 flying at 1000 ft., had wheels put back on and towed to my house. Regardless, they had me in a corner because I'm moving and time was of the essence, so we used it anyway. We'll see how things go on the other side. This rating might get better if things are well-handled at our destination. ABF was chosen because of price. We ended up using the entire 28ft floor to ceiling and got the bulkhead in. I might use them again but I would be very specific about getting a newer/cleaner trailer. I'm kind of disappointed with what we got especially because we booked months in advance. You'd think you would give the better trailers to the people who locked in early....right?...
We had at least one of these guys for a local move, and they were terrific -- efficient, careful, diligent, hard working, courteous, responsive. This second move was to pack a big truck for moving to another state. Again, the guys were fast, efficient, hard working, courteous. It would have been better if a more experienced lead was working with them for this type of packing to get the truck packed more effectively and carefully, getting it all done within 30 minutes of the projected 4 hour load time. Once the truck was unpacked, we found quite a bit of damage simply because they didn't use the padding provided, and packed table legs next to table tops, rather than turning the tables to be top to top without padding between. The upholstered furniture will need to be be cleaned due to dirty footprints and lack of using the plastic covers provided. The claims contact said UPack freight trailers are ineligible for coverage.
We've moved with ABF before using a Relocube, and as a company we just think they're great. Helpful, on the ball, and they send you all the info and paperwork you need ahead of time. The trailer was definitely a different game entirely from the Relocube, as it does require more skill to pack and restrain everything to avoid breakage (thanks to HireAHelper we got great loaders who took care of that), and even with their fee factored in we're coming out way, waaay ahead of hiring professional movers. The reason I'm subtracting one star is because of the LOCK situation. To their credit, they do go to great lengths to indicate the specs of the lock you need to provide to secure the divider within the trailer -- the shackle needs to be at 2" tall and no more than 1/4" thick. Unfortunately, I'm yet to find a single lock that lists the shackle thickness on the package. Most look like they're right around 1/4", so you might buy one with a 2" high shackle assuming it's "the one they mean," but let me spoil the surprise: it's not. It's too thick. Any reasonable secure lock is too thick. We finally found one that worked at Target; it's basically an oversized luggage lock. At the end of the day, the trailer ITSELF is locked with a beast of a lock that only the driver can open, and I trust ABF, so I'm not too concerned, but I still wish they'd allow a heavier gauge.
I preferred the trailer to the cube because I am horrible at estimating space and if I needed more or less, I had options. They were a little off in their drop off time but the driver took the time to show me how the ramp worked as well as the bulkhead doors. We used them for a past move and had success.
I have used ABF for two moves. Both moves went very well. ABF was easy to work with, were on time with drop off and pick up. Staff was friendly. I have no complaints and would recommend to anyone who wants a cost effective way to move, especially long distance. I had a quote from a private moving company of $6,000 for our move (not including storage), but only spent a total of $2,900 with ABF (this figure includes 2 months of storage and hiring a moving team to load and unload).
I used ABF ReloCubes in the past, and was happy with them so I contacted them again for this move. The gentleman helping me on the phone suggested we use a trailer as it would be cheaper then the ReloCubes for this move. All of their customer service people I have spoken with, and their drivers who delivered or picked up equipment have been extremely pleasant to work with. Their system of text messages made it easy to keep up with the status of my "stuff" and schedule the pick-up of their equipment, it couldn't have been easier. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5, was because I feel they could have transported my belongings a little more directly saving time, as well as the amount of bouncing and jiggling of my boxes. I feel the extra time caused some undue stress on my boxes and property. Also I was told 7 - 9 days, and my trailer did not arrive until day 10, not counting the day it was picked-up.
It was okay. If I were to move again, I would not use them. We were under a time crunch when moving and were given a 8-11 time window for drop off and it didnt come until 1230ish. The bulk head that we had secure ourselves to protect our belongings in the truck was bent and very difficult to secure. When our belongings arrived, we had more difficulty removing the bulk head because of a load that pushed against our stuff. My husband busted his hand trying to remove it. For $3,000 the drivers should help putting up and removing the bulk head.
When the driver came to pick up the loaded trailer he repeatedly slammed into the trailer to get it to connect. I suspect this is what caused the back third of our belongings to topple over BACKWARDS and were damaged with multiple scratches and gouges on the wooden furniture. As far as the rest of the service, the communication and coordination w/ the company was good. Everything went according to scheduled times.
I used an ABF UPack 28ft trailer to move from California to Georgia. Everyone is very professional at UPack and answered all of my questions and concerns. I was given an easy to follow schedule for delivery and pickup of the trailer. I was able to fit all my personal items onto the trailer with ease. Using ABF UPack Trailer was definitely the best option for me, I got the space I needed for a very fair price. I would definitely recommend UPack and use them again.
This option was a good one for us. The trailer was in good condition and the driver was professional. Pick-up, storage, and drop off were all smooth. I did a great deal of on-line searching and spoke to representatives from several companies. This company had the best offer. I would use them again. They were excellent in helping to resolve a problem we had Metro-movers of Albuquerque.. Everything on the contract was delivered as agreed upon.
