U-Haul® Reviews
Uhaul has always disapointed me and has done it for the last time. I reserved a 15 ft truck but they called me to tell me they didnt have any and if i wanted one it HAD to be a 10ft. So i had to spend the entire day before the move moving half of my stuff into storage just to have the bare necessities and my furniture which is what i hired the movers for. When i arrived to pick up my truck i had to wait in line for 2 HOURS and they didnt even have my truck. They then had to scramble to find something for me because the movers were already sitting at my house waiting. Not to mention i had to go somewhere else for my tow dolly. This was the last straw and i will never EVER be using uhaul again for anything.
Jason and Matthew were terrific in getting our 20 ft. truck unloaded and moved into either the house or garage. They were on time, very professional and courteous. It was a pleasure having them here to help us get our "stuff" into our new home. They finished on time and even offered to sweep out our rental truck! I would definitely recommend them!
If I could rate these guys ten stars, I would do it! Bobby and his crew were fantastic in loading our 20 ft. UHaul truck. They shrink wrapped and protected our furniture so nothing was damaged. At first we thought that there was no way everything we had (multiple cartons and plastic totes) would fit, but Bobby is a "master" at loading and got everything loaded with no problem. They were professional and courteous and we enjoyed having them help us! They were indeed a blessing and made out move to Florida less stressful. I would recommend them in a heartbeat!!!!
The truck worked great. The only complaint I have is that, upon returning the truck, there was a huge line at Uhaul, as it was a Saturday afternoon and was very busy. There was only 1 guy working, so the wait was quite long. I recommend that you keep more staff working the office during mid-afternoon on weekends, as it is generally a very busy time and would cut down on the wait time a lot. I felt sorry for the one poor guy who was there alone in the Jonestown Road, Harrisburg location, on Saturday, 6/26!
Uhaul is always great, but I would avoid their "hired labor" business partner "movinghelp.com" because once my hired labor canceled, there was no phone number to call. You HAVE to email movinghelp.com only, and the moving labor listed is not always available due to a scheduling bug within their system. If your labor is not available, you have to cancel, rehire someone (pay escrow money), call that person to make sure they're available, and if not, rehire (pay escrow money) someone else JUST to get their phone number to make sure they're available....it's nuts. hireahelper.com just called all the labors for me to make sure they were available.
I had issues with picking up my vehicle that took up an entire day and the customer service was horrible. I was transferred multiple times and ultimately had to return a truck because there was a nail in the tire and I was on hold with roadside assistance for an hour without reaching anyone. On top of that, I was charged full amount for the first truck which I only had for two hours and charged the full amount for the second truck I had to pick up. I still have this under dispute. The customer service is excellent when you are trying to reserve the vehicle and very poor once you actually have your reserved vehicle.
The staff was good but U-Haul "bate and switched". Looking for a convenient location to pickup online, we were shown locations that specifically did not guarantee availability and ones that did. We chose the latter and two days prior to the move date were informed otherwise. It should be clear to clients that truck location availability is not guaranteed.
When the truck was picked up, the cab was not very clean and smelled very strongly of cigarette smoke. When checking out the truck, with the general manager, there was a discrepancy with the odometer milage vs. the contract. The paper work I was given indicated a 1,000 mile difference which would have had me paying 40 cents per mile half way on a 1,600 mile cross country move on a truck with only 68,000 miles on it. The general manager did correct this but had to charge my credit card a 2nd time to provide a new contract. I noticed that the price between the contracts was different because the first contract had a extra "sales subtotal" plus tax which added an extra $15 dollars. It was obvious that this was a extra fee that was just tacked on because this was not present on the second contract. Later, when I was refunded my money, u-haul refunded me for the cheaper of the two contracts. Then, the truck was given to me with an 1/8 of a tank of gas and the general manager tried to tell me that it was at a 1/4 of a tank. It is usually customary when getting a rental vehicle that you get it with the tank full so you can return it with the tank full. Finally, After I fill the gas tank, I noticed when I pulled into my apartment complex that there was gas spilling out everywhere. After quick inspection I noticed that the exhaust valve on the gas tank had not been screwed in correctly and was completely off. The valve was also noted to have multiple cracks to it and was ready to fall apart. I tried to screw the valve back in but had to call for maintenance assistance (third party). The maintenance guy came out surprisingly quick but had the same trouble and was not able to get the valve on. He ended up braking the part and had to get a new one with a special tool to get the valve back on the gas tank. In addition, I volunteered to participate in the load share program. I will never participate in this again because the communication between me and the u-haul representative was very confusing and unspesific. It took a lot of extra time to find the trailer I was supposed to pull and was very frustrating. I was told that I was going to be pulling an 8 foot trailer with one pod but then when I picked up the trailer it was a much bigger trailer then I was promised with not 1 but 2 pods. This took much longer than I thought and because of the extra weight that I did not anticipate It cost me much more in fuel. Also, dropping this trailer off downtown Seattle was almost impossible and the exact drop off point was not communicated to me until after I picked up the trailer. When I arrived at the drop off point, u-haul was not expecting us and tried to turn me a way to a different drop off location due full capacity. Overall, this was a terrible experience and I do not recommend it.
Uhaul did a horrible job with our move. They switched our truck rental twice, then ended up not having the size we needed. We had to use a smaller size and make multiple out of state trips and it cost us double what it should have, and we had to pay for movers twice as well due to this. They refunded us $50 for their "truck guarantee", which doesn't scratch the surface of the overall cost and headache they caused us. The only bright spot was Justin and Wyatt in the Uhaul store in Versailles, KY. They tried to be helpful and do whatever was in their control but it still wasn't enough to make our truck rental debacle ok.
